pnital 36 Posted February 10, 2011 Another scene, photographed at the dance ; PRIVATE COLLECTION.Some of Sally Ann Friedland ,the choreographer's words: " Our secrets are collected in private hiding , places of fear, uncertainty and borders, thoughts and memories, all of them are creating a personal collage. The thin colored nets are creating a mood, light and shadows and visual barriers." Thanks for viewing Link to comment
tonyfrench 0 Posted February 10, 2011 Pnina, Forgive me if I ramble a bit and hopefully make a point. This is a wonderful series and in my opinion this is the strongest single image so far, for several reasons (not that I should be comparing it to the others). First the absence of a theatre space and the beams of light from the instruments allows me to focus on the emotional aspect of the figure more as a human being rather than as a dancer in performance. Also with the figure seemingly at rest instead of in motion I can focus more on her upward gaze and seem to take more away from it regarding her struggle with self. Another thing I particularly like about this is the subtle rose colors of the lighting, allowing us to catch important glimpses of the figure under the swirls of delicate fabric. It's a very dramatic image without being theatrical or without the trappings of a theatrical setting. Again I am sorry for rambling and this is just my opinion, they are all wonderful images. Donna Stavis 0 Posted February 11, 2011 Feels quiet and inward. She's shrouded in lace, shrouded blood, shrouded in darkness -- like in the womb of a bride. I like the idea of a woman and fetus with a blurred sort of interchangeability. Deeply feminine, personal, like contemplation and birth Link to comment
m_akin 2 Posted February 11, 2011 original and nice image...tells stories...I like it a lot..congrats Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted February 12, 2011 A dramatic analogy to childbirth. That sharply focused edge of the curtaining material is crucial to the success of this picture. One of your strongest pictures, Pnina. Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted February 12, 2011 The experience overtakes the person. Her personhood is thrown into shadow and what remains is the light she is experiencing. Thoughtful. Link to comment

aarkp 2 Posted February 13, 2011 a difficult scene to photograph, i'm sure... very thoughtfully processed, without that it may not have worked as well as it has Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted February 13, 2011 Tony, thanks for your "ramble" that has a lot of logic .I think that a good choreography, its sources is not only movement , but needs also some content .So life as a source of the dance is my understanding and experiencing the creation and that is what I try to express, there are choreographers that I connect better to their works of art, and this work of Sally-Anne is one of them. I'm glad that you felt as part of life and not only a dance movement.Mehmet Thanks as well .Donna, each of us see and experience a scene differently, womb and birth is a very interesting analogy, as there is a pose that I uploaded in the past that was similar to the womb and fetus.Jack, fetus, childbirth, borders of in and out, all are part of that choreography that I can see again and again and still find new feelings as well as angles.Jeff, Thanks for your impressions, wanted to transfer my feeling and reading all the comments, yours of course, let me know that it was passing to you as observersGunnar and Rajat , thanks both of you for your feedback.
