LenMarriott 9 Posted February 10, 2011 The rapport you had with this man, the personal connection between you, is evident. I applaud your ability to manage this. His demeanor speaks of warmth and friendliness. The tilt of his head provides the desired diagonal line adding to the animation in his face. The harsh lighting and angle of it does a good job of revealing the texture of his skin, not unlike some of Karsh's images of famous people. There is even a back light on the right helping to prevent that side of his face from merging into the dark background. Only his eyes could use a tad more light, a little sparkle of life. On my screen, at least, his eyes come across as deep dark wells. A photoshop solution perhaps? Mehmet may be on the right track. One for your portrait portfolio in any case. Best, LM. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted February 10, 2011 A very nice portrait! I like your tone of his face skin, I agree about his eyes that needs a bit more light, but in general it is a very nice smiling face. What does it means "Baul"singer? Link to comment

amalsircar 2 Posted February 11, 2011 Len, thank you very much for taking interest in this image. I agree with your suggestion. I have tried to get some details from his eyes by dodging. Though the light was quite bright, if I had used fill-in flash, perhaps this darkness could have been avoided. I did not plan for this portrait. Later on, I decided to make a portrait, by cropping from a larger frame. His drooping eye-lids are also a contributing factor, for lack of details in his eyes. However, I am uploading another version , taking your & Mehmet's suggestion into consideration. Once again, thank you very much for the suggestion. This is the only way I can learn .Arup, many thanks for your feedback.Pnina, I am giving a link from Wikipedia, from where you can know all about Bauls.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BaulTheir style of singing is interesting & simple but contains words of wisdom & truth. Bauls are no longer confined to villages or cities of India. They have become quite popular in France & USA. Their multi-coloured dress and musical instruments(ektara/ghungoor) are hit with the audience. I have earlier uploaded an image of Baul singing & dancing, in their traditional way.http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=4046808 Patsy, thank you very much for your feedback. Light was not ideal for portrait-photography.Joaquin, Muchas gracias! Un cordial saludo,A.K.Bora, I am glad to notice your visit after a long time. You are one my favorites in p.n. Many thanks for your impression.Maurizio, I agree with you regarding sadness. Many thanks for your feedback.Tolo, Muchas gracias! Un cordial saludo, A.K.jorge, many thanks for your observation. You can know about them, from the link provided to Pnina. Link to comment

amrit_chatterjee 0 Posted February 12, 2011 Amalda,I took long to view the portrait since it has evoked such a lot of comments from valued viewers.I was also trying to understand the rapport which you enjoyed with this wonderful person.I find a strange mixture of emotions playing on his visage. While the lips are parted flashing a heart winning smile the eyes portray a strange pathos in their depths.Whatever little I have known about Baul way of life are the predominant twin philosophies of universal brotherhood and the seeking of the 'Moner manush" or the Soul within. While the smile welcomes you as his sibling the constant search for his inner self whom he may or may not have found expresses the tinge of sadness in the eyes. Link to comment
steveshinn 0 Posted February 12, 2011 Amal you nailed the color tones on this. I love the sort of coppery look. I think that bringing up the eyes really helped here.Excellent image, a 7/7 for me. Link to comment
