Shot in mixed sun and clouds, no filters, handheld. This is an attempt to create a shot similar to Robert Adams shot in his book WEST FROM THE COLUMBIA (Aperture).

Comments, ratings appreciated on this--especially comments on tone and

composition. Scan doesn't really do print justice, but it's good

enough. Thanks

Not bad. Not enough going on in the sky to capture my attention. I would crop most of it out. Also, parts of the grass are a little "hot".

I would have moved the jetty just a little further to the right so that there was a little less grass in the foreground. The hightlights in the upper left can be burned in, that's an easy fix. I bet an orange filter would nhave dressed this up nicely as well. All in all, very nice. But if your close, worth a reshoot.

The thing that caught my attention on the samll image was the choppy sea, only it turned out on closer inspection it was the grass. I like that sort of juxtaposition in landascapes, although a real choppy sea mimicking the grass texture would have made this perfect, but you've really got to be keen to get out there when the weather is that fresh.

When I try this sort of thing I usually find a sharply sloping horizon or even 45° diamond format framing works quite well for me, and has become a bit of a trademark. It's not a style statement or anything, just that my tripod keeps on blowing over.

Print the clouds on the left darker or bleach them half the time you used for this print and it should work out fine. I would put print to the bleach starting with right top part of the sky first, then the rest. Classy shot and great results!

Beautiful tones Robert. I like the line and the distinction that the barrier creates between the ocean and the softly blown reeds. Very interesting shot. Brad

The print has promse. I love the light on the grass in the dunes and the lighting is very moody, but the white part of the sky on the left ruins it for me, Its distracting

The image is a nice start. The sky seems a little flat. Also the left edge seems to be very light. What about cropping just the center portion?
