aepelbacher 0 Posted January 25, 2003 I'm still very new to photography. I like the way the setting sun shone on this beautiful old building in Washington, DC. Any comments on composition or lighting or ratings would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Link to comment
georg_lambertz 0 Posted January 25, 2003 You captured a beautiful light which reveals some interesting details of the building. I like it. Link to comment
luca moi 0 Posted January 27, 2003 Beautiful light, Ann, but I prefer more symmetry in the building Link to comment

rogan 0 Posted February 15, 2003 I don't think you knew what to do with the subject matter here and nor do I. There is no focal or anchor point in this shot and yet, there are there in abundance, the lamp cluster, the main door way, the columns, the facade, etc. Link to comment
isometrixx 0 Posted April 30, 2003 I agree that there does not seem to be a center of interest to the photo but I quite like it anyways. I like the contrast between natural and artifical lighting (doorway vs roof). Link to comment
tom_menegatos 0 Posted June 13, 2003 You should have tried to get it when there was more even light on the building. Maybe when the sun was on the other side would have been better. The angle of light brings out the details but there is such a small section that looks nice because it is lit by sunlight. My favorte parts though are the orange doorways against the bluish columns. I change my mind. Get a tripod and take a shot of this building a few hours later when there is no direct sunlight on the building and bracket the exposures. Maybe the dramatic mix of happy and gloomy is why I still kinda like this photo though. From going through this whole folder I think I can safely advise that you increase your exposure a little to get a little more shadow detail or maybe it's the prints or scans? Link to comment
ransford 0 Posted September 13, 2006 I see this wonderful image has not received comment for over three years. I also notice the criticisms are unfounded. The light on the building is fantastic. As a matter of fact, the light, not the form, is the focal point of the picture. Recommending a different time of day rather misses the point. And to suggest a more symmetrical view similarly misses the point. We all have our hang-ups (I would compulsively adjust perspective in PS, but I'm just beginning to deal with my obsession with level horizons and straight buildings).Anyway, this is very exciting. I love the way you have caught three distinct window colors. Where others just see a building (interesting though it be), you have seen a rainbow. Don't ever lose this picture. Link to comment
