I especially like the way the light off her hair mirrors the light coming through the grass at upper right. The direct gaze, the lovely background -- all very nice. Maybe a reflector to bounce a little bit of warm light into her face would have improved the photo slightly, but as a parent I'd be delighted with this picture if this was my daughter. Very nice.

Morgan,

She is a cutie. You have focused very well on her eyes. I love the backlighting. The halo around her head highlights her hair and helps to separate her from the background very well. She has good eye contact with the camera (viewer) and a nice expression. Her catchlights are very good. The background is nicely out of focus and she is well separated from it.

Even though the background is out of focus the weeds on her right and the red object and brightness in the upper right corner (her left) are somewhat annoying.

I really like her soft skin, but I would soften the dark circles under her eyes. Sometimes even young girls with wonderful skin need a little help.

She has too much headroom. Crop a bit off the top.

You have used a horizontal format on a vertical subject. I would consider trying a vertical format to see if you like it better. There really isn't anything around her that adds much to your portrait that you need to include. By shooting vertically you can move in much closer to her and fill your frame more with your subject.

Her skin tone is a little dark and a bit too red.

Even though she is young, I wouldn't pose her body straight on to the camera. She would look more graceful at an angle to the camera -- more feminine.

It may be that you wanted to include the sunlight shining through the weeds on the upper right corner and decided to position her to the left to balance that bright area? It would be better to move her to her right if you wanted that bright area in your picture. Not that I am really sure it is a good idea to include it. At any rate, you want to compositionally balance the left and right sides of the photograph. The compositional "rule" for this suggests that you position the tip of the subject's nose in the vertical center of the photograph. This little rule almost always works well. At least it gives you a good starting point from which to subtly adjust your composition to make it visually balanced.

The advertising (Dudley PHOTOGRAPHY) is not part of the photograph. It distracts from your subject. Your name and the date, if you wish, could be properly placed on a mat surrounding the photograph. Any advertising would be better placed on the back of the photograph.

Nice shot,

Mark
