I am just wondering if you could have composed this such that the black area went corner to corner. I am also curious to know if you could have composed it with the complete arm in the shot. A fine shot nonetheless.

It would have been very difficult to keep the whole arm in the image because this was shot with a fisheye lens that is then processed with a fisheye to  rectilinear conversion routine. This program  exagerates the depth distortion and the effect varies signiifcant with position on the lens.  A good portion of the black area in the image above is where no image data actually exist after the conversion (note that the image is shaped like a fat hourglass ofter this conversion). The black in this images cover up this area and cuts off some of her arm in the process. The diagonal line gives the image much more tension than curved hour glass lines.

Terrific, I love this one, the reds especially. For me it works as well cropped just above the wrist and hairline, not better, different.
