aepelbacher 0 Posted January 22, 2003 I realize that the quality of the photo and scan aren't the best ... this was taken with an old "point and shoot" before I recognized that I had an interest in learning about photography. I am just pulling old photos that _I_ think are decent to seek comments on the _composition_. Any thoughts or ratings are greatly welcome! Thank you!! Link to comment
jeff_damron 0 Posted May 6, 2003 Don't you hate it? You ask for comments and all you get is a dinky rating but no suggestions? Anyhow, I see why this is one of your favorites. Actually, I think the composition is good. It looks to me like mostly this picture needs some tweaking - an unsharp mask, a levels or curves adjustment, some color correction, a little more saturation, and maybe some burning in of the sky near the horizon in the middle to make it the same as the rest of the sky. They may sound like a lot, or it may be something you already know how to do by now, but it's fairly standard adjustments in Photoshop and other programs. As far as composition itself, cropping off a little of the sky at the top may help focus the eye on the more interesting subject - the canyon. Link to comment
henrimanguy 0 Posted August 28, 2003 As for the composition, i think it would be better to have less sky. A rule is to place the horizon on one third of the height. In this case, you would have to place it on the second third (or higher). This would have perhaps provide you a foreground, or you would have to look for one. Now, you can crop the top, more or less above the first clouds, but you don't have foreground. About the light, try to not take shot (in general) when the sun is high in the sky, which make flat photos, without relief, particularly in landscape photography. That's what i can say about this one. Link to comment
raywei 0 Posted July 8, 2004 It's a great view and properly exposed too. As for the make over, I am playing with your photo to learn PS tricks. I need a lot practice, but I don't have this kind of photos. And I don't want to ruin my own photos... many times I fake them too much, right? On this one, I used curve, histogram shift, brightening filters; noise reduction filters, plus dodging and burning the clouds in different places. You can tell that I am a gearhead. LOL. raywei 0 Posted July 9, 2004 The system removed my attached pic. Maybe my version is too big, or too bad. LOL. Anyway, did you see my resubmitted Lighting Tulip? Can't wait to see more horns from you. Link to comment
