Robert, your basic, a nose for a fine subject is more than OK..! Here the child, the nice colored wall with the windows, the street and just enough snow..! However, you make me curious. Curious after the total amount of glass at the top. For the shot could use some extra for a better balance: some more glass and a bit less street.  (Perhaps the top of the windows was ugly and was this shot, this choise the result.) Never mind, the most important is your nose..! Fine-tuning while composing will grow. And (!) your different, special window shot, is a good one. Yes, Romania is, next to the tough life, a "shooting paradise..!"

Hi, Olaf. Thank you for you opinion on this shot. It's really constructive, hearing advice from more experienced photographers.

I was using my 50mm 1.8 at that time, and I couldn't back up more to zoom out a little more. So, I had to cut the top of the windows down in order to adhere better to the rule of thirds.

Thanks for your valuable time,

Robert

I've also been thinking of the possibility of going backward or not. Yes, the wall is a rather huge one. :) About the rule of thirds, it's just an indication. Having (getting) feeling for composition, the personal feeling at the moment is the most important. People can compose very well or attractive without ever having heard about the "rule" of third, while sometimes at the same time unconsciously "using" it. However, seeing clear and instructive results of what the "rule" might work out, can help or motive people in not always only shooting the subject centered. One does awake for different possibilities. Yes, and even the unexpected opposite did happen: people presuming centering subjects is wrong. Haha, meaning Ceausescu, they are right..! :)

Next time when I catch the boy there, I'm going to do another shot. :P I'm still experimenting with different composition positions, because I'm a beginner.

In this case, this was the best angle I could get, because the boy would have walked out of the frame If I hadn't shot him down immediately...bang-bang. :D

Regards

Robert

When you cannot get back far enough, take another shot, like above the boy's head and you can combine them in your photo editing software.

I see a lot of promise in your work and some good 'captures' as well.  The couple in the park at night, for instance, come to mind.  I hope you keep it up (I find Flickr difficult to navigate)!
