starvy 7 Posted January 25, 2011 John, you do much justice to an exquisitely pretty model. Compositionally, this ranks as highly as any of your other outstanding works. One slight critique, the bokeh is a little harsh when looked closely.I am a great admirer of your portfolio in general, this feels a little mainstream. Beautifully done but perhaps not as interesting as some of the other shots. Link to comment
John Peri 1,027 Posted January 25, 2011 Many thanks Starvy. By Bokeh I guess you mean the out of focus area? I run around the forest in summer with my 300mm zoom lens (which in fact becomes a 45 mm on my Nikon D90). It's amazingly good at catching things when you stand really far back, and as you see, I also use it for portraits. One may or may not like the focus effect of course, but it can be used to advantage. Best wishes, John Link to comment
DawsonPointers 362 Posted January 25, 2011 Hello John:I notice that you do not apply a vignette to most of your photos. Care to comment? Link to comment
ruslan 1,212 Posted January 26, 2011 Hello, John. Her look is about fashion, luxury, runways, shop-windows as I imagine her - the background here is the bark of a green tree (?). Of course the photo is good - agreed not discussing models but but I strongly determine her as a fashion/glam model who doesn't look harmoniously in that place in a forest. One day you said you didn't work with professional models. Unbelievable - she is. I wouldalso add some more contrast. Ovrerall, the picture is good. Link to comment

Guest Guest Posted January 26, 2011 Hello John,THis is really a nice portrait and has a lot of interesting aspects the crisp detail of the tree contrast well with the soft lighting tones on the model. I guess the only small distraction for me is the dark circle around the eye. The right eye as I am looking at the photo. The iris of the eye almost gets lost in the dark of the make up and the down cast shadow. I am by no means being critical just a simple observation is all. Again your work is always outstanding... Cheers MJ Link to comment
John Peri 1,027 Posted January 26, 2011 Thank you friends, very pleasing to read. I do regret the dark area around the eye, but it's sundown in the forest and hard to capture more detail. The soft approach I thought to be in line with the demeanour and relaxed attitude of the model, but that is for others to judge of course. I thank you all for expressing your views. Link to comment

kaurlass 0 Posted February 25, 2011 It is a perfect photo for my taste. Perfect beauty, perfect composition (I like the pyramid like composition as hands make it lighter). And I like the moody background, it brings the sharpness and lines of her face out so well. Also cropping is perfect. Link to comment
