guillelobera 0 Posted January 22, 2011 The Embrace by Juan Genovés is this sculpture in tribute to thelawyers killed in the "Matanza de Atocha".The 1977 Matanza de Atocha (Massacre of Atocha) was a neo-fascistattack during the Spanish transition to democracy, killing five andinjuring four. It was committed on January 24, 1977, in an officelocated on 55 Atocha Street near the Atocha railway station in Madrid, where specialists in labor law, members of the Workers' Commissionstrade union (CCOO), and of the then-clandestine Communist Party ofSpain (PCE), had gathered. The next day, the massacre was defended bya group calling itself Alianza Apostólica Anticomunista (TripleA or AAA). The indignation brought about by the killings acceleratedthe legalization of the Communist party, which took place in Easter 1977. Link to comment
