well ross i got to be honest the first thing i see when i look at your image here is all the dust on your sensor. The second thing I see is all the noise in the sky.then theres the lack of DOF.I would suggest cleaning your image sensor, using a lower iso setting and some noise reduction and a tripod so you can use a smaller f-stop to get more DOF.

Jason-Thanks for your commets, you have better eyes than mine.Your points aside what do you think of the composition as a whole & the point of view. Regards-Ross

I think there has to be some positive balance to the comments already made. I think the composition is good , with the lone foreground tree occupying a "thirds" position and with stream forming a nice leading line to the far distance. I don't think dof is an issue, but perhaps some shapening. I would refrain from offering any further advice as I don't know what settings you used? or if you used a tripod? other than I might be tempted to change the WB to very slightly cooler look.

Best Regards

Alf

i do like the comp. and PoV. looking at the scene from here i think a shoot just to your right along the river bank would have worked a little better. it would have placed your tree on the left of the frame and the lines of the river bank would have led the viewer into the image. just my opinon tho.

HI Al Thankyou for your constuctive comments, much appreciated.Have been working on this image a number of times but am not too satisfied, primarily because of lack of sharpness & underexposure. Normally, I use a tripod but Iwas on a walking bridge & the sides precluded using a tripod which accounts for the lack of sharpness Hope to return to this spot in the near future & hopefully can obtain a better image. Thanks again fortaking the time to express your comments. Regards-Ross

Hi Jason, thanks for visiting again & your comments.Have an image just as you described with the tree on the left, will see what I can do with it.These images were taken two years ago, so expect I can do better this time.. Have been out of the picture for a year due to health problems but an operation is in the near future & expect to be back on the trails again. Thanks again-Regards-Ross

Hi Ross! So far, what has been said echoes my thoughts. The sky needs some dust mitigation and some cooler hues might give this more winter mood. The only thing I can add constructive wise is the sky has a slight cyan cast. Now, for the good news. It is a captivating image and the lone tree provides some introspect. No doubt, the conditions here are well conveyed. I like it alot! I really hope you're health is improving and we can see more from you when you are back on the trail. All the best to you my friend!!

Hi Mark-So nice to hear from you & I do appreciate yourcomments & well wishes.Believe it is time to close shop on this image. As everyone has correctly pointed out the image fails from a technical point of view.I feel an attachment to the image because to me it evokes a feeling of quietness & remoteness, places where I enjoy & feel most at home. Again, thanks for your well wishes & I am pleased that you think of me as a friend. Regards-Ross.

The picture has some  balance.  But the main tree gets lost with the busy background.  Also, there's something about the foreground on the left that also seems too busy what with the mess of frozen brush and the puddle in the foreground.  It's pulling away from the tree if the tree was suppose to be the main subject.  The stream with its white snow banks is interesting but it also pulls my eye away from the tree to the back iof the picture.  I wonder how a shallow DOF might work on this tree to elimnate the busy background?  Nice shot.  Alan.

Ross, other than the minor technical issues mentioned above I think the image works really well - you've managed to capture the mood of the place - well done
