Only the last 20 yards of the lake near the outfall was without the

covering of ice, I could see the bottom clearly so I managed to get into

the water to take this shot. Your thoughts and comments are always

appreciated. Thank You.

You must have some amazing boots.  The colors are phenomenal, and the dark bit of cloud provides accent, moodiness, parallelism  to balance the color of rocks in the water.  Beautiful work with many intriguing details such as the tiny ripples of water and much drama    .

Do you ever look at an image, observe the 'clean and amazing detial' and just kind of 'sigh' ???  Well I just did. Beautiful work Alf...stunning!

Effective composition well balance with the stone in the foreground and the dark cloud making a diagonal. I admire your courage to go inside this water so cold .... Regards, Jean-Marc

Glorious shot in Idwal, I like the calm of the water against the snow covered peaks and a wonderful Snowdonial sky. I thought you might have carried on up the Devil's Kitchen on to the Glyders, only a couple of cms of snow ! He says with tongue in cheek !

Great shot in a wonderful location.

John

Hi Alf,  Great shot. Love the composition. The sky is also excellent with its contrasting colors. Take care.

Beautiful place Alf, the clear water is always a favorite of mine and this is wonderful. The sky is killer and a perfect backdrop for those snow covered hills protecting this lake. Nice work on exposure and color...the snow is a natural white and not the dirty gray we so often see.  I wonder if you had your "Acme Neoprene Wellingtons" at the ready when you went into the water...or were sloshing around with very cold and wet socks on the trek home  ;)

Warmest regards, Pamela

This shot is really beautiful. The composition is well balanced, the triangle of snow covered rocks responds to the triangular mountain in the background. The wavy shape of the edge of ice is a very pleasing one. The sky is interesting too.

I really hope you did not catch a cold getting into the water, but this shot was well worth the effort.

Beautiful landscape!  The exposure is so well balanced my immediate thought was that you must have used a graduated neutral density filter.  You must have been very careful not to disturb the reflection when entering the water as it is a lovely addition to this photo.

So much depth and drama here you worked on! A very photogenic scene on golden moment and top light conditions, as well as those deep shadow on mounts and contrasting clouds. F/G details, and sharpness all over the capture are also impresive. For me, the clouds, at least partly , are over-bright a bit and may improve with burning and recovery. It's just a personal taste for more darker scenes, and actually when judging about whole scene here i find it so dramatic!

Bravo and thanks for sharing this inspiring shot.

Alf, I like the line where the water turns to ice, it almost looks like a reflection of the mountain top. The foreground is quite wonderful with the interplay of reflections, snow covered rocks above the water, and the various pieces under the water.

Alf, you have an incredible talent in your ability to "see" a photo and make it come to life. You could probably create fantastic pictures with an older aim and shoot camera. However, this scene is so real that once again one of your winter shots makes me feel chilly. Great work. Take care, Deanna

Echoing all the positive comments above I'll add one of my own.  Had this been my shot I would have presented it with about 2\3 of the negative space at the bottom cropped out.  Instead of an 8:12 ratio the image would now be closer to 8:11.  Why would my crop be less desirable than yours?  Just asking!  Best, LM.
