Long haired, combed strategiclly over one eye seemed to be the fashion

statement on Llandwyn Island, .....well for the ponies at least. Your

thoughts and comments are always appreciated. Thank You.

Alf...  You sure do have a lot of religious horses ;-)!  But they are quite handsome/beautiful (as the case may be) and I do like the fine detail and the stylish hair.  Excellent shot... Mike

Love this image Alf.  Besides the excellent POV, editing, color and light, it also has a wee bit of the 'mystical' for me.  The pony does it...truly a different breed that I find fascinating (as well as 'stylish') ! Love it!

Ah, the rogueish coif.  Wonderful detail depth and mood.  Strong composition.  Great work!  Best regards.

Great textures and color. You can feel the moment. I like the cross and building in the beckground but wished they felt more like they were a part of the picture's story. - Charles

is what she is doing and keeping the foal warm. Besides the mane attraction, the eyelashes are nice too!

This is very attractive, the way you have arranged the composition is excellent.  The horse has an almost flirtatious expression, which of course is enhanced by the coiffure.  Looking at this, one wants to ask, what happened next?   There seems to be and expectation that a treat should follow.

A very nice image,

Jim

Many thanks for your visita nd kind comments. This is a crop of landscape shot, I wasn't sure to crop it or not, but it seemed to adhere better to the "thirds" rule better this way.

Alf

JOAN

If only I'd brought a bottle of shampoo and  hairdryer : - )

MIKE

Religious lol ....errm well yeah! Come to think of it I did take a shot of two of them in church.....well ok it was a 16th century ruin of a church ..but a church al the same :-) It was the church of St Dwynwen a lady  (The Welsh Patron Saint of Lovers) a bit like out St Valentine........The history is fascinating but too much to write here......if you like history google it, it's quite a story. But the whole island in steeped in historic relgion...no wonder some of it rubbed off on the ponies!  Sincere thanks for stopping by Mike, I appreciate your input.

Alf

GAIL

This has got to be one of my favourite places in the whole world (lLandwyn Island) and if I get a couple of decent shots while I'm there it's a bonus! As described in my reply to Mike above the place has a fascinatingf history. The ponies themselves are a breed of Welsh Mountain Pony, they are really hardy and can survive on the rough grass and scrub that even sheep would struggle with.  Many Thanks for your visit and encouraging words Gail, much appreciated!

Kind Regards

Alf

FRANK

"Rogueish"  yeah now thats a good adjective to describe the expression!  Many thanks for your visit and positive feedback Frank,

CHARLES

Many thanks for stopping by and for your encouraging comments.  The cross and lighthouse in this image is incidental, I think a better example of a horse with a connection to the cross can be seen in the last image I posted "Silent Prayer"

TIBI

Sincere thanks for stopping by and for your posiitve feedback. .....I'm beginning to think you have an eye for the ladies........noticing things like eye lashes :-) .........or could it just be an eye for detail!

Cheers Tibi

JIM

Now I'm beginning to get worried......a horse with a flitatious expression....I must get a hair cut :- )

Errrm bit of an anti climax what happened next......The horse carried on munching the vegetation at its feet and I carried on taking photo's of her buddies......I say anti climax......but the reality is. there was no where I would rather be, and nothing else I'd rather be doing.

Many Thanks for your encouraging comments Jim.

Kind Regards

Alf

PATSY

You'd love it here, the wild ponies are numerous, though they can prove elusive at times. I'm truly honoured that you have included it as a favourite Thank you!

Beautiful photo; Beautiful horse (pony)! She is the Veronica Lake of Llandwyn Island with that hairdo of hers! I am definately planning on visiting this magical place when I take my trip over there. Who knows...maybe we will run into eachother taking photos! lol. Wonderful shot Alf...I can't wait to visit the U.K.! Thank you for sharing. :)

I'm in love. This is a wonderful example of finding a moment in nature which pulls together many aspects of beauty, not the least of which is the environment of this lovely creature.

Alf, that is some rockin' Welsh pony, from its muddy grass hooves to that sexy hairdoo; really tho, an astonishing creature, lucky to have you do its fashion foto shoot; and when we get all natural and admire the beast and its environs, it's all quite majestic. the magic of that island you folks live on beyond the empire of it all. wonderful work, Alf! ;-} dp

Hi Alf, I think you must either be incredibly lucky, a magician or just plain gifted to come up with shots like these. Not sure how you managed it but to get the pony, cross and building working so well within the frame takes some doing. Hats off to you. looking forward to seeing more!

Best regards. Sarah.

I missed this one for a while! This beautiful pony is the guy of interest in the previous shot you posted... So beautiful and cute! You depicted her (?) in the best way! Composition, clarity, light and sharpness, all are perfect here. Bravo.

TRISHA

The similarity definately starts and ends with the hairdo, Veronica Lake had much better legs : - ) This is one of those "must do" locations for your trip, theres every chance you'll find me there, and definately if you let me know when you plan on being there. Many thanks for your interest and kind words Trisha.

ANNE

Thank you for your visit and positive feedback, there is a most definate mystical aura to the island that is always present no matter wich part of it that you point the camera at.

Sincere thanks for stopping by and for your kind comments. much appreciated

LIZ

Such is the power of this mystical place, and it's history that it renders you in this condition with but a single glance : - ) I refer to St Dwynwen a women that was (The Welsh Patron Saint of Lovers) a bit like our  St Valentine. This location (Llandwyn Island) was her home wayyyyy back in the 5th century ........the history is absolutely fascinating, but you can google her name if you are interested, it's better than any work of fiction. And yeah of course the beauty of the place helps a lot too. Many thanks for your visit and positive feedback Liz.

DONNA

Hey! these welsh ponies like to get down and get dirty! ...literally : - )

I think I was the lucky one in this case , usually they are so unco-operative wanting to do nothing else but munch the vegetation, this one kept her head up, and astonishingly even did each side profile views for me to capture...what a poser! This is a little island (Llandwyn Island) situated off our little island the UK ......defijnately worth looking up if you venture beyond the empire : - )

Cheers Donna I do appreciate your feedback.

Best Regards

Alf

SARAH

Llandwyn Island is blessed with 2 lighthouses, a ruined church, 2 crosses, a row of tiny cottages, a canon and numerous sandy bays , beaches, dunes and rocky out crops, as well as having the Snowdonia mountains as a back drop on one side. I found that if I circle the horse / horses I want to photograph, untill I get the right back ground, then it's just a case waiting for them to lift thier heads for a photo with perhaps a more interesting background than average. Ok...... I just made it sound complicated I'm a magician really : - ) Seriously though....it's just a great location.

Many thanks for stopping by and leaving those very encouraging comments, much appreciated.

Alf

HAMID

Sincere thanks for stopping by and leaving your very positive comments. This horse is a different one than the previous post.  She has a much darker mane, and is more grey than white. But they are all the same kind of breed, Welsh Mountain Pony, and roam wild here on Llandwyn Island. I don't know exactky how many there are, but I seen about 20 on my last visit and I'm told there are a lot more.. Thanks again Hamid

Best Wishes!

Alf

That is one CHUBBY horse. I always pitcured wild horses as these emaciated creatures leading a hardscrabble life, not pampered residents of a park where visitors lavish them with goodies.

Link to comment

I don't think these horses get too many goodies.......this place is remote not a park but a nature reserve measuring many square miles of forest, dunes and sea front. I've never seen anyone feeding them........and errm I think you may have missed an obvious possibility............this little pony is with foal : - )

Cheers Emmanuel your comments brought a smile.

A cute, and superbly composed, image of this fuzzy fellow Alf! Excellent work! Do these guys run wild in this area, or is this a domestic beast?

All the best,
Neil
