Guest Guest Posted January 12, 2011 Linda first nice shot. I am always confused if this is called a raven, a rook, or a crow either way I think they are similar and to me always seem to be smart and some what awsome.. Cool shot... MJ Link to comment

alfbailey 2 Posted January 12, 2011 Excellent shot, I love the colours, the composition and tyre tracks. MJ I think this may be a Rook not to be confused with a Jackdaw which has a grey looking mantle or a Raven which is larger and darker, and the crow which is larger again........well I think so : - )Very well captured LindaBest RegardsAlf Link to comment

rdjc 0 Posted January 13, 2011 Very original, nice comp. the shadow and the tire track makes you think it's a good thing he wasn't on the road a few minutes earlier, or he may have been and oops. Regards, Bob Link to comment
ldavidson 4 Posted January 14, 2011 Thank you all for commenting. MJ, Alf, this is a Raven. They are prolific around here. Crows are as well. MJ you are right they are very intellegent. In First Nations Spirituality as often seen in their art the Raven is a diety. He is the creator and called the Trickster God. The Haida of the Queen Charlette Islands believed he discovered the first humans hiding in a clam shell and brought them berries and salmon. I attached an image of a Raven and a Crow. The most noticable difference is in the size; The Raven is larger. The beaks are very different, the Raven has a hook on the end of his beak. The Crow has a sharp pointed beak. Ravens prefer to live in the forest, Crows don't mind living in populated areas. Best wishes, Linda Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted January 14, 2011 Linda thanks for the clarity and then the identification of the Hawk in my shot, it really helps to know what you are shooting and that helps develop a greater interest in shooting birds. In australia there are lots of birds to shoot but now I am back in Indo on break and not so many birds here so I will need to do street until I am back in Perth.. Again thanks soooo much for the clarity.. MJ Link to comment

Donna Stavis 0 Posted January 18, 2011 I love these long winter shadows and the expression of this bird, but the tracks, and his crossing of them emanates a bit of tension. Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted January 18, 2011 What delicious tension as the little one makes its way across the tracks, tempting fate as they do. Link to comment
