The light coming in from the kitchen window was very strong, and I

wanted to play with exposure a bit and create a less common portrait

of my son, one that presented the more somber, more serious side of a

baby. :-)

I don't know what effect you wanted, but it looks as if you have a somewhat different shot to me. (Different from what?)

The sepia is from natural light by the look of it.

Possibility of either an evil look forming or a gas bubble escaping!

Whether you like it or not is more important than anything else and it seems to me that you captured something you asked of yourself.

Technically, looks slightly overblown on right side head - maybe.

The walker distracts me somewhat, but the initial reaction is, "nice".

I have trouble reconciling the cuteness expected of a baby with the serious, somber, stark look of this photo. Babies are free of all these things

Martin - that was my main intent behind this particular shot, to go against what is generally "expected" of a baby shot.  I've got a number of more traditional baby shots in this gallery, but I chose to try something a little different with this one.

I'm also not entirely convinced babies are clean slates...I think there might be some credence to the philosophy that souls are recycled/transferred.  I often do see more going on behind a baby or young child's eyes than you would normally associate with someone that young.  It is, after all, where we get the saying "He's got an old soul."
