I am not all that keen on the background, but it still works. What bothers me more is that she has 2 wings growing from her ears...:-) Yes, I mean the hair. To me, this detail makes the picture a second class shot. The expression could also be a bit more interesting, I guess... So, not your best imo... Cheers.

I agree, the hair around ears is a distraction. However, I think the background plays with the color of her beautiful eyes and pink lips. I love the simplicity of this photo. Nicely done.

Hi Rene .

Very good image . Skin tone is very apealing. The EYES and the backgroung work fantastic for me. Expression on the first glance no too good, but I tend to like it more every time I look at this. What mostly complient the image are her LIPS ...color and texture. Regards PK>

My first dissapointment from you! While I do like the shot it seems to be lacking in contrast a bit. But the part that bothers me most is that I had no idea it was by you until Marc said it wasn't your best. Then I looked at the name to see who did the shot and was shocked to see your name attached to this shot.

At the same time, while I love your work, it is good to get out of your normal style and do something different. I think part if what made me not think of you when I saw this shot is that you don't do a lot of head shots. You usually have some amount of background in your shots which allow for more of your style to show through.

So, while this shot doesn't scream "RENE" it is a perfectly good shot on its own. Apart from the slight mushiness.

Take care! Bye for now.

There's an intensity...or perhaps anger...deep in this subject's eyes that is very unsettling. A great shot and a wonderful portfolio.

I like what others might call imperfections... the hair, the lack of contrast, to me these are what makes the shot different. It is not a glamor shot, this one is about her expression. She has intense emotion in those eyes. They drawn you in. The pastels can't soften that intensity.

Not what most of us have come to see as a typical Rene shot... but do they all have to look the same to be Rene?

Rene, whenever I get bored/frustrated with this forum I find one of your photos and remember why I keep looking. I think that you're at your best when you work with this kind of directness and simplicity. This model is so naturally beautiful as to seem not quite of this world. Angelic. The power of true beauty is undeniable. Thank you for posting this stunning work.-jdf

Hi Rene, what's up with the camera-stuff? The EOS-3 isn't a digital camera? So why say the film/media was a digital jpeg? Please tell us some more about the technical details of this shot. What film did you use, etc...

I'm somewhat confused by a few of the preceding comments because I think this photograph is very visually appealing and substantially more realistic and engaging than many standard glamour photos. The colors are fantastic as is the expression. This looks like a real woman and not an airbrushed mannequin. Its always a pleasure coming back to your portfolio.

I'm with Dennis on this... many comments indicate that a photograph of a woman should be idealized and perfect to be "acceptible" which is the most insidious and dangerous effect of "glamor" photography... turning complex women into Barbie.

I would like to see this same photograph of this woman wearing no make up at all. Honest portraiture has a value far beyond the superficial rendering of a person's suface and the further artifice of glamor techniques and sensibilities.

This image conveys an emotion other than sexual availability, and some people find that complexity disturbing in a beautiful woman, while others find it refreshing, liberating and magnetic. I am among the latter... t

Agreed Tom. I truly love Rene's portraits. I would love to have him take my portrait. - Rene you bring out more true beauty than any hollywood shooter could ever get close to. Thanks for depicting us women in a more confident light.
