Resting while waiting for a spout. Geysir is without doubt the most famous geyser in the world and has lent its name to this phenomenon in many languages. Shepherds and other wayfarers came from far and wide to see Geysir erupt and place names such as the King's Spring or the King's Stones are a clear indication that the area is well worth visiting. Tourism to this area started early and has been in the hands of the same family for many years. Today the area is one of the most popular destinations in Iceland and offers a wide variety of things to do. The magnificent scenery of the surrounding area is also ideal for day-trips.
