Pnina, I really like the composition on this with it's background of portraits, the intricately sculpted portrait on the instrument, and the concentrated focus of the subject itself. The empty space to the right really draws the attention to the performers face with the beautiful unbroken line of the face and shoulder.

Thanks both of you for your  nice impression. It was a very nice event and gallery.

My best seasonal wishes and coming new year!

I've always admired the way musicians can seemingly leave the level of consciousness upon which most of us mere mortal reside and go into a world of their own. This image kind of reminds me of that state. I also really enjoy the way the neck of the instrument seems to mimic the work on the walls. Very nice.

Thanks for expressing your point of view, which  is very accurate. I think as well that a good musician is the one that can disengage himself from reality and connect solely to the world of music. It connects as well to the listener imo....BTW the work on the wall was created by a well known Israeli artist

I like the air of serenity in this image, it speaks of spiritual fulfilment through the medium of music and is somehow epitomised by the headstock of the instrument (a Cello maybe?) as well as by Armit's expression.

Very nice work Pnina.

Best Regards

Alf

As an occasional (and usually frustrated) musician, I was immediately drawn to the subject's expression.  I don't need to hear what he's playing, or even to know what he's playing.  The experience of playing music is unlike any other.  On a more mundane note, I love the composition, especially the diagonal lines of the cello and bow.

My best to you and yours for 2011,

michael

Hello Pnina.....and Happy New Year!  Some very nice things about this image, but I have some questions also.  :-)  Several above have suggested that Amit's expression is related to his involvement with his playing.  To me, it almost looks like he's standing and getting ready to acknowledge applause.  His posture just doesn't seem to be appropriate for playing position.  But I could be wrong.....and often am!  :-)  Having myself played many a concert in art galleries/museums, I particularly like the setting with the art work on the wall behind him.  And I love the scroll on his instrument.  Many bass, cello and de gamba scrolls have a real 'story' behind the art work on their scrolls.  You don't by any chance know this one?  Anyway, this is obviously a serious musician in a serious moment, and I like it!

Thanks for your nice visit and comments.  You may be right,  but to  really answer your question, I must say that I don't remember....as it  was photographed some time ago. I have uploaded it as I like the composition, and I have wonderful memories of the music and event in this particular place. Amit and some others from that group are also building some of  the music instruments themselves! About the scroll of this one, I will photo them again this month and will ask about it and let you know. Interesting point ! Thanks.

I agree with Christal in as much as he does not appear to me to be playing his instrument. However with the exception of Michael L no one else has suggested that he is doing so in this photo.   I attend a a lot of performances and I often witness musicians on stage who are not presently playing their instrument but who are nonetheless very engrossed in the music as they wait for their next part.  Perhaps this is what Amit is doing or perhaps he is, as Christal suggests waiting for applause, there does seem to be anticipation in his expression. At any rate his expression does seem to suggest being transported to another place.

Thanks for your follow up. I don't remember  details but I do remember that I was happy with the music and surrounding.I photographed it quite sometime ago,  and as I wrote before, I uploaded it because of composition ,light and his expression. I know that I have to go back to some older photos that I have left while taking and find them anew.Thats  what happened with  this one and some others that I will upload,  (I think that you do it as well Gord.;-))
