The precise exposure Bulent reveals the the details on the difficult texture of the snow....

Beautiful rich pale tones and composition with depth.....I can see the dog on the top of the hill....

PS: Many thanks my friend for your kind words under my last post.....

not so much pale as pastel.  wonderful scene.  do you have a raw file?  in Apple Aperture, there is an adjustment for "Boost."  Turning that down would put more action in the snow.  In Photoshop, you could use curves to darken the brightest parts.  I've been working on snow.  I'll upload one of them to show what I mean.

Bleak.  The yellow hut lacks context, which heightens the creepiness factor.  I like the bland, noncommittal sky.

There's a good picture here but I'm not sure this is it. I seems to fall between some sort of statement and a simple obsevation of color and form.

Thank you all very much for your comments.

Electric Picture,
I do not use PS. I believe I can replicate all the PS effects using my own tools. I will be watching your space to fully understand what you mean.

Jack,
You are probably right; this is an approximation to what I had in mind while leaving the car.  The best possible place for shooting (a lower point of view) was practically unreachable (because I was in "business" clothes) and the dogs (there were two of them) did not participate! The remaining one also left just after this :(  And, you were able to spot my dissatisfaction! You, mind reader :)

but there weren't any comments, so i deleted them down.  i'll attach one here to show you what i mean.

I've turned down the "Boost" control in Apple Aperture, but the same sort of thing could be achieved in other software, as you say, by lowering contrast, or brightening the dark part of the image less.

I think it helps bring out detail in the snow.
