Guest Guest Posted December 13, 2010 Aleksandar,She is a very pretty girl. You have focused well on her eyes. She has good eye contact with the camera (viewer) and a pleasant expression -- just a hint of a smile. Her make-up is very good. The lighting is soft and pretty. She has very good catchlights. The background is nicely out of focus, but it is still too busy and the orange flowers draw attention away from the girl.Avoid bright colors and bold patterns in clothing. In a portrait the subject’s face is what is most important and nothing should draw the viewer’s attention away from the face.Your subject should have more room in front of her than behind. This allows her to be facing into the picture, not out of it. You want to compositionally balance the left and right sides of the photograph. The compositional "rule" for this suggests that you position the tip of the subject's nose in the vertical center of the photograph. By positioning the tip of her nose in the vertical center of the photograph you not only have her facing into the picture, but you have good left and right compositional balance. This little rule almost always works well. At least it gives you a good starting point from which to subtly adjust your composition to make it visually balanced. There is a blue/green tint to the entire image. It is especially noticeable on her face.I cropped to try to give it better compositional balance. I also tried to make her skin tone better. By improving the skin tone the rest of the colors were improved. I also lightened the image a bit.Nice shot,Mark Link to comment
amitai schwartz 0 Posted December 14, 2010 I like the original very much. What make it interesting is the combination of wonderful colors. That's what attracted me to the image in the first place. The crop seems almost off balance inasmuch as a portion of her shoulder is missing and the "busy" background is accentuated. I do agree that the original needs to be a bit warmer. In either version, it is a very nice portrait. Link to comment
