marcadamus 1 Posted December 8, 2010 It was an incredible show of light. Just happened as though we were at an incredible place! Thanks for any comments. Link to comment
whydangle 0 Posted December 8, 2010 You must have needed to change underwear after this one! Holy crap, that's a colorful and tumultuous sky. The virga at right makes it a cut above any other sky, but the middle cloud has an odd appearance. It is always hard for me to see what's going on detail wise in these smaller previews, but I understand your hesitation to offering larger preview image files. Niiiiiiiice!! Link to comment
marcadamus 1 Posted December 8, 2010 Mark, thanks. I'll probably have to blend/mask that cloud separately, as it's looking to me like ACR's continuing inability to accurately record the brightest shades of red/magenta without transitioning towards yellow. That cloud must have been right on the edge of blown by the initial RAW processing which rendered everything else ideally, and when that happens it shifts yellow. Link to comment

daverave 1 Posted December 10, 2010 Fantastic view and amazing photo. I agree with Mark with regard to that funky looking cloud in the middle. BTW, I've always seen it spelled "Toroweap." Link to comment
miles_morgan 0 Posted December 10, 2010 Steve waited until I had to go back to work before heading in to this spot. He's gonna be PEEVED when he sees how great the light is that you got here! Question. Did you rope off on this spot? It sounds like its a bit hairy standing up here. We have been planning a trip back, and wondering about bringing climbing harnesses and using the Rubicon's winch to tie off to. Link to comment
marcadamus 1 Posted December 10, 2010 Miles, I wonder if that would actually yield something interesting? It pretty much drops off a sheer, if not overhanging 3000 vertical feet here. I'm not sure you'd find a good ledge for a tripod or something.... I actually don't think it would be a better perspective down low. The area I'd like to tie off is over at the west end overlook, but no getting the Jeep there legally. It's an anchor-rich environment though, that's for sure. No problem there. This was close to the edge, obviously, but not so close I needed to tie off. Link to comment
Larry_G1664882113 15 Posted December 11, 2010 Marc, Another amazing example of being in the right place at the right time. How do you do it so consistently? Excellent wide angle shot. Link to comment
e_franklin 0 Posted December 11, 2010 Only two things wrong here, I wasn't there and I didn't photograph it. Kidding aside, I just viewed your portfolio and I can say without reservation, "WOW". Thanks for showing these here.......EF Link to comment
marcadamus 1 Posted December 11, 2010 Larry, thanks. I miss plenty of these light shows too, but the ones I catch are because I absolutely love weather and skies and track them using every means possible using nearly 300 days per year in the field to do so. Link to comment
ndj 0 Posted December 12, 2010 This is an outstanding image Marc! The sky is simply incredible with the exception of the one odd cloud Mark mentioned but that is easily fixed. What a spectacular location! The composition simply doesn't get any better than this. Brilliant light, and remarkable detail in the foreground. As I've previously mentioned there is no substitute for being out in the field a considerable amount. Your skill, and more importantly your dedication, is what makes you images so good. All the best,Neil Link to comment
miles_morgan 0 Posted December 13, 2010 Awesome. Thanks Marc. Really looking forward to getting here. I'm partial to your shot facing the other way, but this light this one is just as special. Good to know you can find a spot to shoot there without it being TOO sketchy. Still think I'll bring a harness... I'm old and fat. Doesn't take much of a gust to get me moving the wrong way :) Link to comment
