Pierre Dumas 266 Posted December 6, 2010 It's a flash light bounced from the leaf of A4 paper which I held in my left hand! And I'm proud of it! BTW, I haven't seen so far that it was Chardonnay! The fact you saw it proves that the picture is razor sharp and your eye also, ha! Cheers my friend!PDE Link to comment

dabar 0 Posted December 6, 2010 An exceptionally nice shot my friend! Excellent light, color and composition.I do think that it would be even better with a reduction in the 'hot-spots', and a bit more detail visible in the shadows. My quickly modified version attached... I'm not so sure about the background, but it is generic enough to be OK, IMO. I also sharpened it a little bit and enhanced the color a small amount. With that said... This would make a good advertising image for the winery.Kudos! Link to comment
cosminalba 0 Posted December 6, 2010 The picture caught my attention not for Cardonnay or the barrel next to the bottle:) Ha! It was just because the beauty of this shot. Really! My best regards my friend Link to comment
Pierre Dumas 266 Posted December 6, 2010 Dave, I did a lot of work to hide the background and now you reveal it?! And I don't want such a saturated picture, I want it as it is, that's a serious photo, no even a montage on it! I had the pomegranate and the Japanese apple in my pocket and put them there!Cosmin, I know you really liked it, I just wanted to tell you how can you get an impression of available light with a flash light only!PDE Link to comment
museebfoto 2 Posted December 6, 2010 Very beautiful lighting, colors and composition. Link to comment
billsymmons 0 Posted December 6, 2010 Beautiful combination of elements Pierre. The composition and lighting is superb. And if it's light painting then it's impressively done. All my best, Bill Link to comment
deb1 0 Posted December 6, 2010 This is a stunning image in composition, color and lighting. Did I mention it's STUNNING? The colors all play well with one another and the rims of the barrel and the chardonnay bottle compliement each other very well. I like the catch light on the produce in the forground, it simply adds a nice little touch. Great, well thought out image. Congrats! deb Link to comment
dom1 1 Posted December 6, 2010 Great composition, Pierre. The warmth and tonality are perfect, as is. Link to comment
harlequin 0 Posted December 6, 2010 A different kind of shot for you. Nicely done. Good color, good story, good composition and good focus. The shadows lower right are very effective. Might have liked the full neck on the bottle but not required. - Charles Link to comment
sumon_mukherjee 0 Posted December 6, 2010 A masterful composition with superb color tonality. Very intelligently selected caption. Best regards. Link to comment
Pierre Dumas 266 Posted December 6, 2010 Charles, it was in an inn, the bottle and the barrel were at the bar on which and behind which were various other objects and I had to avoid everything else but the bottle and the barrel! I myself took out of the pocket the pomegranate and the Japanese apple as we call it and swiveled the head of my flash to the left where I held a paper in order to bounce the flash light! Elstad 8 Posted December 6, 2010 A most marvelous still life Pierre my friend. Like a painting of old it is. I must say that I like your version much more than the revised one above. It has a much more alluring sense of chiaroscuro that is keeping in the theme of still life of old. Bravo! Link to comment
norway 0 Posted December 6, 2010 Hola Pierre. Excelente imagen, gran composicion y luz. Te felicito. Un cordial saludo, Joaquín. Link to comment
blue-olympus 0 Posted December 6, 2010 A very well produced and clever shot Pierre, the colours compliment each other really well, and the surrounding blackness sets the scene....Bravo! Link to comment
yannis_georgikopoulos 0 Posted December 6, 2010 Beautiful composition! The colors and the tonality give a romantic perspective of the pass... like a good Chardonnay...it tastes good when it's old!Best Regards Link to comment
papasan 0 Posted December 6, 2010 Nice work Pierre, and not easy to achieve, i tried a similar theme for a strobist contest a while back and had a lot of difficulties controlling the specular light from the wine bottle. I like your version hands down over Dave's more saturated one. The beauty in your image is the soft light which cast a nice warm atmosphere, almost as if it was taken in a dark cellar. The golden hues of the wood barrel also contribute to this warmth. The fruits add to the composition by providing additional foreground interest and a feeling of life. my only comment would be that it would have been nice to include the entire bottle in the frame, but that's minor. Very nicely done - regards - michel Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted December 6, 2010 Again very impressive still life, the contents are so well thought of and designed, your control over lighting as usual of very high skill, the colors are real remarkable and very powerful impact to the image, I like this image not been flat with its light and the present of shaded zone at the right add very interesting sort of drama effect to the fine composition here.Thank you my friend for sharing it and wishing you all of the best.
