Unfortunately I have no access to proper lighting equipment yet, so I

used my ceiling spotlight for this one.

 

Still improving my manual focussing ability but it'd be nice to be

able to get sharp on the eyes - hard when you're flying solo! If

anyone's got self-portrait tips it'd be great as it goes.

As for manual focus with such a self-portrait, measure the distance from camera back to location with a tape measure  and set the focus distance scale on the lens.  Some cameras have a mark which is a few mm more accurate than the back.

I copied the center part of the original and show you what the flesh tones look like if you desaturate the orange light.  I did this in Adobe Raw (works on jpegs too) in CS3.

Cheers mate, that's what I've been doing but I hoped there'd be some trick to it... just have to keep up the practice I guess!

Yeah the changes I'm not too keen on - I prefer my photos quite warm though I understand it's not to everyone's taste.
