vbirke 0 Posted December 4, 2010 Taken at Lake Steinhude this evening... The lake is currently covered by pretty thin ice and another layer of fresh snow, hence no one can walk on the ice yet, which is good because there are no traces etc. yet which might disturb a photo of it. There is a little island called "Wilhelmstein" to be seen at the horizon (illuminated by a single light). The island is owned by the Count of Schaumburg-Lippe (whose ancestor William had erected this island around 1780, ...en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William,_Count_of_Schaumburg-Lippe). Hence, a reeve lives and works on the little island inside the lake throughout the year - a lone guy maybe, connected to civilization by phone and a small vessel or an iceboat only... However, if the lake is frozen, but the ice is not thick enough to carry at least the reeve (plus his iceboat - the island is around 3 km away from the lake's shore), he gets stuck on the little island, maybe for weeks: last year, while the lake had been frozen for around 10 weeks during winter, the reeve had to stay there over Christmas, but he could be released by a hovercraft a few days later thus enabling him to meet his family for a day or so before getting back... ;-) (true story!) stp 6 Posted December 5, 2010 Interesting story. The darkness and blue make this vast open area look very cold -- a perfect setting for the story. Link to comment

andregilden 0 Posted December 5, 2010 Nice story. When you see the image with the beautiful bleu and cool tones you can understand the empty feeling. Regards. Link to comment
tonyfrench 0 Posted December 5, 2010 Volker, I love the minimalism. The blue tones certainly give it a sense of iciness and solitude. Link to comment
