pnital 36 Posted December 6, 2010 So you don't " freeze on the yeast".... ;-)) it looks you have traveled to China again... you have a good series of photos from that interesting city, and some other places. This one translates especially the wintery mood. I like how the trees are "framing" the bridge and the people's dispersion on it and near it. The color hue has a very light orange /creamy hue, that adds to the B/W of the rest, nice as well is the BG and reflection.Good timing, very beautiful, adding it to my favorites. Link to comment
AJHingel 127 Posted December 10, 2010 Thanks Pnina, yes I'm back after some wonderful weeks in this beautiful eery ancient country. History plays a major role in what ever you see and the Summer Palace is maybe the best place to start. For the pleasure of your eyes here it is in simplified Chinese: 颐和园 It was, as you might know, build in the 18th century but burned down to the ground without any military reason, by the British and French armies in the 1860 after being ransacked (our museums are still filled with the result of that act), but immediately rebuild by the Chinese. It therefore stands as it was intended behind the back of the photographer (of this shot) high on the hill overseeing this pleasurably small scenario. You cannot travel in the country without constantly being provoked by the extreme esthetics of scenes, gardens, palaces, temples and to some degree daily life of ordinary Chinese people and their daily endeavors.I hope some of my photos from the travel (that I have or will up-load) reflect such esthetics, still fulfilling the role of documentary shots. pnital 36 Posted December 11, 2010 Thanks for the information. I was in China in 1966 ! I think I need another visit, and your photos are evoking this will.....I have two albums with photos from this visit, and I'm sure a lot is changed from this time....when are you traveling again to that country? if you do let me know;-)) Link to comment
AJHingel 127 Posted January 1, 2011 This photo has received an average of 4 by six raters. Maybe someone can explain the "Why not less/more" question. All critics are very much appreciated. Link to comment
alfbailey 2 Posted January 2, 2011 I cannot answer your question about the ratings of your image, the voting statistics of PN is a constant source of mystery to me. This is why I place all my shots for "critique only"I would venture that for me this shot is worthy of a 5 or 6. The bridge with the reflection and frozen waters beneath makes for a great winter scene. I think I would prefer to see a bit more reflection and less sky, but suffice to say I do like this shot.Best RegardsAlf Link to comment
gardena 0 Posted January 13, 2011 I love the steely gray colours image. It looks cold and I know how cold it can get there. I ice-skated on the lake at the Summer Palace took photos of the lotuses flowering there way back in 1976/77. I hope to get back there soon - but not tot ice-skate. Link to comment
sarah_fox 4 Posted January 17, 2013 Anders, I won't rate it (and hate ratings), but I'll say that I really like it. Stop worrying about ratings! :-) Link to comment
michaellinder 16,611 Posted May 12, 2013 After just posting a response to your thread on the philosophy forum, I am compelled to say that this photograph is a fine piece of art. I would be proud to hang it in my house, but it really deserves to be in a museum. The atmosphere the image creates is beyond description. My best, michael Link to comment
