Not Here 93 Posted November 27, 2010 Dick... A very nice, natural scene that is very well composed. Hard to believe, with the warmth of the colors, that ice is already forming... Good shot... Mike Link to comment
JimCowan 0 Posted November 27, 2010 I like the way you have composed this, the water is nicely framed and the shape leads the eye further into the image. Lovely detail when enlarged.Jim Link to comment
rarmstrong 0 Posted November 27, 2010 Mike and Jim,Thank you both. This is a creek that leads into a lake in the upper peninsula of Michigan where I own a cabin. I was checking on some work that was just completed on my roof. This spot is a favoritie of mine and the light was very good. I had my camera on the seat in my vehicle with my trusty 18-200 mounted in case I saw the moose that has been reported to hang out here.No moose this trip...someday:-)Dick Link to comment
clayton_m 4 Posted November 28, 2010 I like this composition and the scenery is appealing, but the lighting is very dull and flat. I'll bet the colors were more interesting in real life. Adding some contrast and saturation in post processing might help. Respectfully, -Clayton Link to comment

rarmstrong 0 Posted November 29, 2010 Thank you Clayton and Janegbert, this looks much more vibrant on my iMac monitor where I did the processing in Aperture. I think that the vibrancy lost a bit of punch when I adjusted levels and shadows to bring out the tree details in the shadows on the left. This is always a delicate balance and may benefit from calibrating the monitor which I have not done.Dick Link to comment
AlanKlein 2,904 Posted November 29, 2010 Rich: You colors look natural on my monitor but I understand the point about saturation. I'm finding that my eyes like more punch too; something to do with eye candy. It's a well balanced shot and it takes me away wishing I had a cabin in the woods too. That's what a picture is suppose to do. One comment. The branches on the left might be better if not there. Not sure that it really matters. But since you'r up there all the time, maybe you can step over to the right a little to try it without them. Maybe you can get the moose instead. I also like the blue sky and cloud combo. Great shot. rarmstrong 0 Posted November 29, 2010 Alan, thank you! I pondered the branches on the left also. But, this spot is available for many more future images. There are some from other seasons in my collection currently. I appreciate the comments.Dick Link to comment
