Loch Sheil Longing

I fell in love with this place immediately that I saw it, it wasn't until later I

found out it was a Hotel.......Hmm definately on my list of places to

stay. Your thoughts and comments are always appreciated. Thank You.

Very interesting unique shot of a unique place, with very good composition. The muted color palette and soft tones greatly enhanced the mood and are very suitable to scene. I think this place is amazing location to stay for a week! Well seen and well crafted. Bravo and thank you for sharing it.

Alf...  Wow, what a wonderful place.  Quiet and serene and all of that beautiful mountain fog.  Hmmm, what do you think about removing the little orange dot?  Every time I look at the hotel, it catches my eye.  Regardless, an excellent shot... Mike

Did someone say ROMANCE.......how lovely is this place! So peaceful and tranquil, truly a place to decompress and reconnect with the soul. I do recommend the larger view as you suggested. The clarity and soft pleasing colors along with that magical mist is well presented. I too shall have to put this on my bucket list! My compliments Alf, this is a wonderful storybook photo!

Yes, perhaps one day, I could stay there for awhile myself.  Your image shows the beauty of its surrounding very well.

Fantastic location, superb photography. You certainly have created a "stunner" here Alf. This chateau type bulding is looking most elegant surrounded by trees, mist and water. Love the overall blue hue with the hotel looking like an oasis admist it all....7

Great shot Alf, nice atmosphere.  I would definitely consider this place for a stay if only for the photo opportunities.  I would be a bit worried about the loch ness figure in the water though ;-)

I looked 'Loch Sheil' up in Wikipedia, it seems that this was the fictional Hogwarts lake in the film version of Harry Potter.

The colours all work together to produce a very pleasing palette.  The mist and its reflection frame this beautifully and of course your composition makes the most of this natural framing.  As others have said this looks like a lovely place to visit.  Beautifully photographed!

First of all, you should offer this one to Manja and Duncan Gibson... ;) I like this scene you have captured here - the reflection of Glenfinnan House and surroundings  off the water included. The typical scottish light didn`t make this shot specially colourful, but it renders the real atmosphere of the local climate and weather around Loch Shiel for the time of the year. Fantastic work - compliments Alf

Very nice job Alf, The colors, mood and lighting are wonderful.  I might burn the lower left corner just a little to use up some of the lake but it's perfect as is.

Hi Alf, Nice composition here. Looking across the lake to the off-center building and the surrounding foliage works perfectly. You have layers of things working here, the reflection below the mist or fog above yet a clear shot to the house. Fits like a frame. Take care.

Wow! Gorgeous shot Alf! You've captured the Scottish mood superbly with this image. I like the blue hues, but find them a touch to magenta too be natural looking.A beautiful, moody, tranquil scene.

An extraordinary place, and a beautiful rendition of it!  This is one of the most idyllic settings I've seen in awhile!  I was just kind of staring at it (escaping for a moment....dreaming of being at such a spot), and the more I looked at it, something seemed not quite right.  Now mind you.....I'm the kind of person who is rather compulsive about things being straight.  My husband doesn't need a level or measure when I'm around because I can tell when things are off by millimeters.  So take this with a grain of salt.....it may not bother anyone else.  But try tilting this just a bit to the right.  The building seems to be out of alignment with the edge of the frame very slightly.  See if you agree.....  :-)   How do you keep finding such great subjects to shoot??!!  :-)

Many thanks for your visit and posiitve feedback.  The natural colour of the mist is a very grey looking shade, which is ok, but a bit bland looking, I changed the WB of the mist as suggested by someone from a previous post "Misty Eye" I think it was, and I must admit prefer the cooler looking blueish hue, probably a compromise would work, a slightly less saturated, more subtle shade of blue perhaps.

Ahhh yeah it really is one of those dream locations,  a stroll on the well manicured lawns after dinner, the splash of wild loch Salmon leaping, the cry of a solitary hawk as it circles overhead, a glass of wine.........well we all love to dream eh?  Ahhh compulsive obssesive disorder about things being straight......AKA a perfectionist! : - ) You remind me of the wife, "up a bit dear, no thats too much, down a bit, a bit more, a bit more, no no no lets try it the way we had it the first time in the other room" : - ) But like her your probably right too! (just as well she never reads this, I'd never hear the last of admitting she's right)

Interesting question you ended on there Christal, finding great subjects to shoot is always a challenge, and on this occaision I had a 7 hour drive, and further hour from our cabin to this one. Three of us photographed the loch, but I don't think the other two guys took a shot of the Hotel. So I suppose personal vision is a factor too, none of us see things in quite the same way. But I believe that great subjects to shoot are all around us, finding the right permutation of light, angle , composition, weather, time of day, is the key to all great photographs.
