This is a sunset photo taken today 11/23/2010 while walking in northern

Minnesota after a fresh snowfall , making for a beautiful sunset

landscape view.

I love the texture in the snow and the feeling of warmth on a cold surface.  Very nice.  I would crop the sky since it doesn't add much to the shot for me and would rotate the image to create a level horizon.  But nice shot overall.

This may be often done, but it is always beautiful.  The golden tone on the snow is great (slightly underexposed, but appropriately so).  I agree with Martin regarding the crop; it would eliminate the least interesting part of the photo and, at the same time, put more emphasis on the most interesting part of the photo.  My recommended crop would be just at the top of the snag that is obscuring the sun (where the two branches cross).  I find that a 2:1 aspect ratio is often very pleasing; if you have to or want to crop the sides to obtain a certain ratio, I'd crop on the right (the trees and shadows are more interesting on the left).

Paul...  An eye catching shot, for sure!  Some good suggestions above, but I must say this caught and held my attention, even from the thumbnail.. Mike

This is a lovely image Paul, I especially like the way the warm light contrasts with the sparkling snow in the foreground, and the shadows spreading out at all angles. Well done.
