drjoder 0 Posted November 16, 2010 In your portfolio you say you don't shoot as an artist, but your portfolio does not really bear that out. Yes, much of what you have is very documentary as would befit a traveller such as yourself, but there are a number of images that do indeed cross that line into art. (Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!) You have an eye for composition and, as a backpacker, you often seem to be out at the right moment to catch the light. As to this photo, how I would love to have seen this sight up so close! I like the posture/pose of the little guy/gal and the red/green contrast is nice. In a perfect world, if it were possible (don't know your circumstances), I would have used as small an f/stop number (larger aperture) as possible to blur the background even more. Also, if you could shoot a burst of three or four shots, sometimes one might be a bit sharper than the others (this image seems a bit soft...camera shake? critter movement?). Finally, in Photoshop (or other programs), you could darken the background slightly so as to get your main subject to "pop" out a bit more (see my attached version for a crude demonstration). If you shoot in RAW, you could also maybe bring out some of the lost detail in those shadows. Overall, though, a great capture of a very unique moment--congrats Link to comment
elportebonheur 0 Posted November 16, 2010 For me this is a fine addition to your travel documentary and a good capture as such. Knowing from own experience how cameras can suffer sometimes in the tropical climate the result is very appropriate.. Compliments - El Link to comment
GailAnthonyHarmer 5 Posted November 20, 2010 Another excellent shot Anabela. I love the expression on your 'Man of the Forest'. Great timing and must have been a thrill to see 'wildlife' actually in 'his' own habitat. What I've only been fortunate to see in Zoo's, you so graciously have shared with us....Nice work!
