I noticed noone's smiling in the pictures, Len. Either playing for money or waiting for the girls to show up, right? The fanned cards and the intense look with the tapping finger really says it all. Nice memories, I bet.

Bridge players are a serious lot.  And, girls?  In a military barracks, in 1960?  Give your head a shake! :-)  May as well try to get a 5 litre container of gasoline aboard an airplane today!  Maybe that's why the players are so sullen, no girls!  As for money, they had none, and thus the Bridge game.  If they had any money they'd be out chasing those good looking Montreal girls.  Montreal still has good looking girls doesn't it?  Perhaps the impatient finger tapping you noted was a signal to his partner.  I don't think they were above cheating.  As I said, Bridge players are a serious lot.  Best, LM.

Len, I never learned how to play cards but after a news story recently aired, I really should have learned.

A 23 year-old Montrealer quit college to play poker full time and won the international Poker Championship in Las Vegas - 9 million dollars in prize money. [Link]

While there are advantages to being a renaissance man, there's also something to be said about working hard to become expert in a specific field.

I agree.  It's more important to do what you have fun at, especially if you can earn a living doing it. Though the payoff can be great I rarely by a lottery ticket knowing what the odds are of getting my $2 back.  :-)  And I would rather photograph a card game than to play one because I like to think I'm better at photographing than playing.   Best, LM.
