Wow, these pictures are so neat, Len. Great composition and love the Fonz look! Funny. I just dropped in Lex's portfolio and made a comment on a pictures of a car of this vintage: [Link]

Let me check out the others.

Good to hear from you again.  Fonz look? Well, it WAS 1960.  And one would have been King of the Road in Lex's 1960 Pontiac.  This set of photos (5) was recovered from the bottom of my old shoebox.  Getting close to the end of these gems now but there may be a few more left.  I think these say something about the time, the location, and the fashions of the day, like the guy on the left with the Perry Como sweater.  So, when you see a re-run of Happy Days, they didn't make that stuff up, people really dressed like that then.  Best, LM.

Len, you must have accumulated many more photos in your digital shoebox. I wonder how we'll deal with those; maybe they'll simply be ignored due to the amount of work.

I must go through Dad's shoebox pictures again. They are from an earlier time but how can you not love them?

There could indeed be a couple of Jewels left in that old shoe box.  During the winter, when my shooting falls off a bit, I'll dig around and see what pops to the surface. Stay tuned!  From the small sample of oldies you have in your folder it looks like you could come up with a few gems yourself.  Good hunting!  Best, LM.

i really love the "old time photo sensation" from this photo. hair, glasses, costum and BW tone. it's really good one!

edit : after i read previous comments, is this really old photo?

Len...  A classic gem.  Military guys are very innovative and the folded gray wool blanket to make a card table is evidence.  I love the capture of four distinct personalities and levels of interest in the game (not postures).  Truly a real life shot, how else can you adjust the radiator heating but to lift the window for some fresh air ;-)... Excellent work... Mike

This photo is so old it has whiskers!  Circa 1960,  in an army barracks in Montreal, Quebec.  Since I recently received my Epson V500 scanner I have been able to resurrect it from the bottom of an old shoebox, it's residence for 50 years.  Brought back memories for me too.  Thanks for your interest.  Best, LM.

Thanks for your observations.  The one about the partially open window regulating the temperature, while previously unnoticed by me, is spot on.  It was the middle of winter & the control valves on those old steam radiators frequently jammed & proved useless so the open window  became the thermostat.  This card game detail was indeed a very typical, in between payday, occurrence and easily qualifies as a 'slice of life' in a military barracks in 1960.  I wonder if any of them  are  in an old folks home doing the same thing today.  :-)  Best, LM.

Great shot on its own terms, very natural and draws you into the scene. But also a joy to see this glimpse back in time. I have a wooden box of my dad's old photos from the 50s and another of mine from the late 70s, early 80s. This tempts me to scan some more in. Nicely done.

You needed to dig deep to come to this one.  Thanks for that & for your comment. Slice of Life in a military barracks in Montreal in the early 1960's!  Looks exciting doesn't it?  ZZZZZZZZZZZZ!  Must have been between paydays.  :-)  Best, LM.
