pnital 36 Posted November 13, 2010 Another scene.I was invited by Yehuda Silk-Gold the founder of Zaka ( details if you are interested)http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=11417670to Jerusalem to participate in a ceremony of a new written bible book.It was donated by a Jerusalem family to memorize a member that was sick and died. This ceremony took place at the family house where the last letters were written (and some corrected), and later on the holy book was taken with a torch parade to a synagogue where it will be available for people that will need the book for praying. It was a very interesting ceremony, some of what I have photographed I will upload to my Jerusalem folder. Thanks for vieing. michaellinder 16,611 Posted November 15, 2010 A poignant demonstration of why Jewish people are described as "people of the book". The glasses being held in the subject's hand while his finger tracks the text evidences his focus on its meaning. I like the lighting and the subtle shadow. My best, michael Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted November 17, 2010 An interesting detail made more meaningful by the explanation in your preface. The person's finger, though out of focus, is easily recognized as pointing to the area of text which is in focus. Glasses in my hand or on my face, text in focus or out, the words, which I assume to be in Hebrew, would still be a mystery to me. I tried converting this one to B&W but I think the colour here is an asset in projecting a warm & comforting ambiance, the B&W being much too clinical. Just some thoughts from across the 'pond'. Best, LM. Link to comment
amalsircar 2 Posted November 17, 2010 Pnina, very good composition & exposure.Well observed. The pointed finger underlines the truth, contained in the holy text. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted November 17, 2010 Bill ,Florin, and Ruud thanks for your feedback. Michael, thanks for all of them. We are "the people of the book' (it did not help us in what is called ' The crystal night). It was a very interesting experience for a secular person like me .Len, your voice "across the pond' is always very pleasant and gladdening.( as well as your shoe box ...;-)) As it was the bible written in Hebrew I felt it needs an explanation. Well, Len I have to use English to participate here,So I don't "blame" you that Hebrew letters are a mystery for you...;-)) Thanks as well for taking the time to work on this one, I have more, stay tuned. Amal, thanks for your constant support, that you know I appreciate! Link to comment
timzeipekis 5 Posted November 17, 2010 What jumped out at me here was the pillar effect created by the divides in the text as well as the object (forgive me as I do not have a name for it) on the left. They create a nice rhythm across the frame and suggests strength and support. The focus is on the text and not the hand, relating that suggested strength to the words and not the man. Nicely done Pnina! Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted November 20, 2010 Thank you all !Tim, the part on the left is holding the rolled written bible. you are right as the book is important for the history, culture , and faithful. I upload for you to see how it looks when seen more of it.Dale, we wrote together, thanks! Link to comment
