D-Day became much more releavant this year, and I'm glad it did.

When we purchased our new home from the lovely widow who had found

the stairs becoming much too difficult to climb, and the house was far

too big since her husband had passed away not long ago, we learned

that he had only about 4-5 % of his sight. (as I recall). At around the

age of 70, these two, still very much sweethearts, had ordered a

Custom Home...that inof itself seemed remarkable to me. But I still

haver her Album of Photos that she left just in case we wanted to see

the house photos as it was constructed. Her name is Thelma and her

husband Roy was showing signs of age. Although he could see very

little, they were very active seniors. They both went square dancing,

playing cards, etc with friends. One room in the finished basement was

his 'work room'. His tool bench is still there which we make very good

use of....and this man, as a hobby, carved ducks. Our neighbors told us

they were really quite beautiful. The hallways in our home are all wider,

to facilitate his comings and goings. The trim around the doorways,

shows signs of someones fingernails having worn off the paint. I imagine

Roy reached for these as he found the doorway he wanted. He had

been on the front lines on D- Day....just sent there the day before as I

recall. He was a 'Morse Code' Operator. It was in the trenches that a

bomb had exploded and robbed him of his sight. He was only a very

young man, and faced the rest of his years this way. Canadians, on

June 6th , 1944 stormed Juno Beach. The 3rd Canadian Infantry Divison,

after a long day of very bitter fighting, secured a critical bridgehead for

the allied invasion of Europe. This victory was a turning point in WW11

and led to the liberation of Europe and the defeat of Natzi Germany. I've

watched many programs this week, and although I knew the basic

details, I never realized the 'severe cost' our country paid ....in lost and

injured men. Many of the men interviewed on TV were overcome with

tears as they were asked to 'remember that which they had fought so

hard to forget'. As I watched these programs I pondered 'our plight', if

there ever is another World War, which seems immenint. This time the

weapons will cause catastrophic and unimaginable events that none of

us truly realize. We will cry out to the heavens to end the

sufferings....nuclear war....I cannot even imagine. Many of our

grandchildren will be the soldiers fighting a war which cannot be won.

And our Earth, yes this beautiful Earth that so many here on PN

Photograph, will never be the same.. But things have not changed so

much over the years, if we cannot make the effort to be at Peace with

our families and neighbors, how can we possibly have World Peace? So

many lives lost in wars to give us our freedom and for what....? Much of

mankind still remains 'moral adolescents'....God help us all, for we

cannot blame Him for our demise. We are it's 'authors', given the

choice of 'free will', and it will be our destruction in the end.

Rememberance Day is much more poignant as each year passes. This

compositon is not a 'work of art'....but merely symbolic of the havoc that

will become our 'reality'. The clock is ticking.....(thanks for viewing, Gail)

A beautiful work-of-art coupled with poignant prose, what more could we want beyond the peace that this image cries-out for...?

You never fail to please the viewer's eye, I love the mix of colors, tonality is perfect, a wonderful work of art. Your story about the previous owners was heartfelt. Is this done with paint brushes?  Regards....Bob

Amazing story and amazing creation! Nice play of colorful curves and dancing movements, depicting life and time for me/viewer. The name is apt and compelling, although somewhat a burden upon the picture. Nice creative abstract artwork... Bravo.

You've hit the jackpot with this production!! It has everything one would want from an abstract work of Art. Trouble is, it's downhill all the way now:-)).....Look after yourself, Keith

As usual, outstanding work and with very powerful composition and interesting patterns, the colors so well saturated and adding a great interest to the over all quality of this image.

Thank you for sharing it my friend, I am having a wonderful time here, Nuwara is too cold at the moment, I tried setting out side the chalet and captured some of the birds here but that was not possible because of the low temperature.

I will be in Nuwara for another 5 days before I move to Bentota, Kandy was a great place too, I was only after street portraits of aged people.

Thank you my friend and wishing you all of the best.

So glad you like the image Robert.........and it is appealing to the eye....it is time consuming but so simple ....go to Image...then all you need to do is experiment from there...I often use bruses to accentuate or do some detail..but depending on the image...not always needed.  Thankyou Robert for those very kind words. Kind regards, GAil

Hi Gail!

Thank you so much for your recent visit and comments to some of my latest pictures. I am not an abstract type, but here I see something which has attracted my attention with it's lines and vivid colours. A creative work (most typical of you) which is very fit to hang in one's living room to liven it up!! Congratulations for this work of art. Best of wishes!

I don't get over to visit you as much as I would like and when I do, I truly enjoy myself.  I do abstracts as a bit of a diversion...kind of a 'stress relief', and while I am doing them I usually end up learning something new in the process.  Glad you found something of merit in this one.   Nice to hear from you John, and thank you for those kind words of critique....hope you've been having a pleasant weekend. Sincerely, Gail
