Clemon,

She is a beautiful girl. You have focused well on her eyes. The lighting is very nice. The background is nicely out of focus and she is well separated from it. She has very good catchlights and eye contact with the camera (viewer). Her "bedroom eyes" work very well in this setting. Dilation can be a sign of sexual stimulation or arousal. It is a nice touch to use with a sensual or seductive shot. I think she is connecting well with the viewer.

Her expression looks a little crooked to me -- her mouth is opened wider on one side than the other. This could very well be caused by leaning her chin on her hand. The contact between her chin and the palm of her hand should be for looks and balance only. She shouldn't really lean on it. No creases in her chin are showing, but it might have caused the little distortion on her mouth.

I like the position of her right hand, but her left hand looks clubish. You don't want to have her turn her fingers under. She looks like an amputee. Avoid having the back of the hand towards the camera. The edge (side) of the hand towards the camera is thinning, feminine and graceful. The little finger towards the camera with the fingers cascaded rather than side by side is preferred. Notice how nice her right hand looks in comparison to her left hand.

Her make-up looks very good. Just a tad more eyeliner under her eyes would make her eyes stand out even more.

You have a merger on the right side (her left). Her upper arm is touching the right side of the frame. Either give her some room or crop into her like you mean it.

It would be good to add a little room on the right (her left) side and even more on the left side. You want to compositionally balance the left and right sides of the photograph. The compositional "rule" for this suggests that you position the tip of the subject's nose in the vertical center of the photograph.

I have cropped to better balance the left and right sides and to eliminate her poorly posed left hand. I did lighten the shadow areas just to give them a bit more detail -- just a tad.

Nice shot,

Mark

I don't about the cropping, I think it's a matter of intentions! If you intended to show the environment more and both hands it's OK, on the other hand if you wanted to make just a detailed portrait of the face one hand would do!

@Mark - As always some outstanding and detailed insight. All your points are well taken and greatly appreciated. I do like your crop, but the hand does not bother me to the point of distraction.

@Pierre - Thanks for your insights. I did want to show the environment and make this more of a captured intimate moment rather than a straight portrait.
