This image is from one of the most famous, but forgotten shipyards in American history. The floor may look like bricks, but they're actually crosscuts of wood. The cracking was caused by water leaking thru the roof, saturating the blocks and when the temperature dropped it froze. It was somewhat like a frost heave in a floor instead of a road.
