it doesn't quite work for me, though.  i think it would have been better to use a longer lens and move back to shift more emphasis to the house itself.

I see where some people prefer to have shrubs surrounding their home, this family went with junk instead. I guess it's all about what works! It's also nice to see they have a storage building to keep the clutter outside to a minimum.

I like this image Lannie, especially if I view it larger, the detail is great. I think the clutter around the house is important to the overall image. I wouldn't change a thing, but that's just this girl's opinion.

Lannie:  Good composition, very typical of rural American.  Seen much of the same in parts of MD, PA, upstate NY.  I agree that a using a longer shot could have been better, the impact of  clutter would have been less.  I do feel that an adjustment to the mid-point in levels would help. Tom

Lannie,

This is a great shot - especially when viewed large. Sharp and crisp. And the tones look, to me, like it was shot on B/W film.....  I think you nailed the processing you were looking for.

Thanks, Tom.  I do personally like your version better, but I deliberately made it a bit more contrasty and darker than usual.  I just thought that I would try it.

Thanks, Diane.  It is close to the effect that I was after, but Tom might be right about the levels, etc.
