The composition is very appealing with very suitable position of that beautiful horse at f/g, nice reflection of the tips of trees and overall color mood which conveys autumn cold. I just prefer to see more details at the reflection the bright sky. Very effective capture. Bravo.

Title suits the image well. Great mood - shows what you can do even if the light is not necessarily the best (work with what there is!). Composition very good - well balanced with things where they should be in the frame. Nice one!

Hi dear Linda,

This is an original view point with nice tones and great details.

Good tonality,also.

7 By me!

Best regards(Bobby).

The reflection of those trees hanging seemingly in midair gives a little extra kick to an otherwise calm capture.  Like a little shot of Tabasco.  I love the grace of this old (?) horse lumbering home.

Hi Linda:

I find this image so poetic and tranquil. I think it must be the beautiful tones you have captured in the evening light.

A wonderfully balanced image with a homogeneous palette of colors. I might have made it a tad warmer based on my monitor and my knowledge of the coloring of this horse. Still a fine image. best regards and thank you for your recent visit. happy haloween,

The horse is a really stunning subject and you've brought out so much richness, texture, and details in it, especially the main light areas. I like the way the horse feels staged against the curve of the banks of the water and the desaturated feel of the autumn colors works nicely with the grayer handling of the horse and the water. It has a storybook calm and elegance to it. I agree with Hamid about the whiteness of the reflection in the main part of the water. Just a bit of work with shadows/highlights in Photoshop or a bringing down of the levels in any editing program you use in just that area makes the horse so much more prominent and gives the horse the presence it seems to be demanding. At the same time, a little lightning of the darker parts of the horse to recapture a sense of texture, would also enhance this. But those are details in an otherwise valiant show of love for this animal.

Thank you all for your kind and generous comments. Sorry for taking so long in responding.

Ricardo, thank you.

Mehmet, thanks for commenting.

Niki, I am going to try it B&W, I agree.

Ruud, good to hear from you.

Tony, it is interesting to notice how the light changes with the seasons, and with the time of day.

Hamid, there wasn’t much to bring out or recover in the original exposure. I am working on how to compensate for that type of problem with shutter and aperture rather than using photoshop. I am sadly, a rather slow learner.

Simon, thank you. This was taken late in the day, just before sunset.

Bobby, thank you.

Jeff, this horse had been prancing around before I took this shot, so I think he was young, but mature. I didn’t capture how truly beautiful he was.

Patsy, thank you, it’s good to hear from you.

Monte, thank you.

Falak, thanks.

Robert, thank you.

Fred, you really see what I saw here. I didn’t capture this horse as well as I would have liked. There were so many different shades of blues and mauves in his coat, and wonderful patterns and textures. He seemed like a magnificent mythical beast passing before my eyes. A lovely soft mist would have been nice.

I did a bit of desaturizing of the shrubs, they were distracting in the original. I did play around with levels and recovery in Camera Raw, brought it into Photoshop and worked on levels a bit. To get the kind of dramatic sky I would have liked I would have to cut and paste in a different sky. Right now my ambition is to get the best image possible I can with my camera. I used to think if something wasn’t perfect just Photoshop it. More and more I admire images that are spot on, in camera. I am working on improving. But it is impossible for me to carry a tri-pod when trying to quietly get close to these amazing animals. Actually this shot seemed much clearer in the original, it lost much of it's clairity when it was posted.

Thanks again to everyone for taking the time to look at and comment on this image.

Best wishes,

Linda
