I shot this portrait as a presentation photo of the new chef for a

local restaurant. Wanted to convey the idea of the chef as artist.

What a great idea :-)

Don't know about composition/lighting though, it seems to be missing some 'spice' but I can't really tell you what

Andy, I forgot to pack an electrical extension cable for my my lighting setup so I had to shoot by the very dim natural light of the kitchen. Alternative would have been the very harsh mixture of halogen spots and fluorescent that they had, throwing all kind of caotic shadows about. The camera was tripod mounted as you might guess.

whatever the light was, for sure is the better. The idea is very eloquent! Congrats for the creative skills.

Technically, this is difficult and pretty good, but mostly, I love the subject. Great fun to me, and I recognize here the state of mind of 2 of my friends who are cooks, and who really live for their art and passion. You have captured here more than a pretty picture - rather the essence of theor joie de vivre...:-) Very good !

Actually the idea and concept were mine and he was a bit reluctant of them at first, although he enjoyed the results.

Christopher, thanks for your comments... I didn't get paid on this one but you will some day be, if you apply to learning. You are on the right place. The hotel owners are my friends and so is the chef and I'm really an amateur so I worked for thanks. I left some extra explanation on your photo on the corresponding page.
