It is hard to come up with any idea on how to improve this image it is quite perfect as it is. You captured the wilderness and ruggedness of this scene perfectly. I like the parallel bands of different colors in the foreground from red, to green to yellow to dark green...  it's almost too perfect for a photo, and it makes this image look more like a painting complete with the textures in the stones and the distant peak with a touch of snow on top. On the other hand it looks so natural and inviting.  The lovely light on the clouds to the left is a nice touch.  Really nicely done.  Regards - michel

Stunningly beautiful.  Great softness and subtle capture of the light on the mountain peak. Best regards, rek.

Mark, it's great! I would be interested in knowing your workflow on this one. If I had shot it I would have had to use an NDG filter of some sort. I assume you did not because I don't see any artifacts from such a filter (is this an HDR?). On my monitor I think it is a bit on the yellow side, especially in the blue of the sky. I tried a midtone +15B correction in PS and it seemed to provide a cooler look without hurting the warmth in the clouds. Yes, I know this was at a low sun angle and the light is warm, it is just a personal foible of mine for a cooler firmanent ;0).

Beautiful composition, and a subject that can't be beat. And you're right, it needs to be viewed large for sure. Nice photograph. Regards.

Thanks Bob and Walter! Bob, I really like the Bierstadt reference. Walter, no grads for me anymore. I simply shoot about 4 bracketed exposures from a tripod mount and make sure I have enough space in between to hold all of the highlights and all the shadows with a little room to spare in the shadows. Then I blend by hand, but mostly I use a mask that drops the best sky exposure onto the best foreground exposure. So by definition, it is HDR, but it is not a software generated version. I checked with the color picker and didn't find the yellow to be excessive, in fact most of the sky other than the puffy pillow clouds is a neutral or slightly cool neutral. I do know what you mean, but being true to the original scene, I would say it is close, but slightly warm in the shadows. I will have to play with the yellows and blues and see if something grabs me. Thanks so much for the input!
