Capital's iconic landmark, St Gerard's Church and Monastery (1910) up

on Mt Victoria, towers over Oriental Bay in Wellington, New Zealand.

The exposure and framing are very good.  For an impressive visual impact there is too much going on, to my taste.  I think the culprit is the bright building behind the sailboats.  Cheers, Micheal

Micheal, why would you want to deprive Wellington of its swimming pool?

Just kidding!  :P

Seriously though, you might be right; I'm too familiar with this scenery to judge it -- some integral part of the landscape would have been missing without it, regardless of whether it fits there or not.  However, I also thought about the modern / historic diagonal juxtaposition, but maybe it doesn't work here or it's not clear enough (?)

why do you need a swimming pool by a body of water?  What's wrong with the water that's already in place :-) ?  Well, I have to say there is a good flow from the RH side of the frame along the gently-lit small "garages" towards the modern building.  But to my taste, the building stops it for two reasons: 1) the shape of the roof; 2) the brightness of the building.  The shape of the roof flows towards the hill, but the hill is dark, so the flow is interrupted by that.  Hey, I like that blue angel (or bird) on the hill.  Cheers, Micheal
