Interiorof Blue Mosque-Istanbul

The Sultan Ahmed Mosque (Turkish: Sultanahmet Camii) is a historical

mosque in Istanbul, the largest city in Turkey and the capital of the

Ottoman Empire (from 1453 to 1923). The mosque is popularly known as

the Blue Mosque for the blue tiles adorning the walls of its interior.

It was built between 1609 and 1616, during the rule of Ahmed I. Like

many other mosques, it also comprises a tomb of the founder, a

madrasah and a hospice. While still used as a mosque, the Sultan Ahmed

Mosque has also become a popular tourist attraction.

Thank you for the brief history, it is good to know something about a subject before commenting. This is a very beautiful building steeped in history and on such a large scale that it looks fairly impossible to capture it's entire beauty in a single shot, even with a 17mm lens. The focus seems a little bit soft in places and could possibly benefit from increased sharpening and maybe a touch more contrast. Facing the prevailing light will ineveitably mean you will lose some detail in the stained glass, unless of course you use multiple exposures. The overall aesthetics are really very pleasant though, and also the composition,  the image gives me a great insight into the beauty and spiritual importance of the building.

Very well done Sadegh.

Best Regards

Alf

Thanks for the history. But after such knowledge, its architect should be mentioned also: Mimar Sinan. He was a great architect. And he builded many buildings in his era.(especially mosques).

Great image, Sadegh.
