EOS Mark 1Ds. Canon Raw, Lens 85mm wide open at 1.2 , ISO 100, Shutter 1/3200. No flash. Adjusted in Adobe Raw, Cropped, Sharpened, Resized, and posted.

Love to have your comments and suggestions. Regards, Ifti

Excellent composition, good DOF, wonderful colors.  Thanks for sharing.  Your shutter speed seems awfully fast, but then if she is walking toward you, then it works quite well.  I just assumed she was standing still when you shot the photo.

A wonderful crisp image with many details to admire. I like the form and position of her hands and even the fact that one is touching the vase/bowl while the other is not. And I agree that the sharpening might have been a little over the top.

Sometimes I will duplicate the layer, sharpen that one, add a vector mask and paint in only the areas that I want sharpened. Usually the 'ill effects' of sharpening usually show up in the skin tones but it does not appear to have happened in this case. The background has this granular look and I am aware that some photographers actually add noise to simulate the film look.

All that to say that this a most enjoyable image - so kudos are in order.

Best regards and I appreciate the many comments you leave on my images.

PS It was a wicked, rainy, windy day here in the Montreal area today but there is sun in the forecast for the week-end.

Iftikhar, this is a beautiful image. The colors of her garments are so vibrant and the detail on them is incredible. The background makes  wonderful contrast to her.

Both your last portraits of this woman Iftikar are excellent...

You perfectly captured her beautiful eyes and the openhearted smile, with great clarity and rich details.

But IMO the strongest point of this image is the precise exposure and the well written marvelous vibrant colors of her dress....

My warm congrats.....

Iftikhar,

You have focused well on her eyes. They have catchlights, but I wish they were a little more dominant so they would add even more life to her eyes. She has very nice shadows on her face which add interest, but you should lighten the dark circles under her eyes. Her skin tone is very good. I like the contrast and color saturation.

The composition is very good. You might crop a sliver off the right side to give it a little better left and right compositional balance.

I love the way the colors of her outfit go so nicely with the pot on her head and the background colors. I am sure this is a traditional costume (outfit), but the bold patterns do draw my attention away from her face.

It is nice to have the strong eye contact with the camera (viewer). However, this does make it seem very posed to me. With her holding the pot and seemingly walking outdoors, the eye contact and big smile seem a bit incongruous. I would have liked to have had her looking past the camera with a more neutral expression so that it didn't seem so posed. More of a street portrait rather than a outdoor "studio" portrait would have worked better.

The posing of her hands is very nice. I would have liked her body angled a bit more to the camera so that she would appear a bit thinner and more graceful. I do realize that it is hard to be too graceful looking in baggy clothes. The material doesn't exactly flow well.

The background is nicely out of focus and she is very well separated from it.

Nice shot,

Mark

Iftikhar,

A wonderful portrait! The details are fantastic, including the colors. I can see why that 85mm gets such great reviews!

Is the background showing the noise because of the fast shutter speed? But it still does not impact the overall photo, in fact I actually like it!

Jim j.

This is superb. The details are crisp and the DOF is perfect! I love the light and exposure - it is very flattering. I would love to see a bit of a twist in your model's pose, perhaps by her looking away or her body turned away while still looking at you. Regardless, this is a wonderful shot.

Love the natural pose with one hand off the pot. The image (especially the eyes) are super crisp. I would probably go a bit low on the sharpening as it adds a bit of noise to the image.

Overall I like this picture a lot.

This one is a very different portrait as it lacks the sense of mystery imparted by your other fine offering.  Arnav makes a valid point about the amount of sharpening here though personally I wouldn't consider it a deal breaker.  I love the shallow, yet adequate, DOF provided by the 85mm f1.2 @ f1.2.  I don't understand Jim's connecting the out of focus background with the noise. (which, by the way, is not evident to me.  I thought that would only be the result of under exposure.  Perhaps he has better eyes than I have.  I'll yield to him on that point) Bill's difficulty with the high shutter speed means he has possibly missed the technicals stating that you were using this lens wide open.  Makes more sense when one realizes the shutter speed required if you are at f1.2 in bright daylight.  Sonia makes another valid point when referring to the angle of the subject's body.  I agree that a more angled pose would be more flattering.   It all depends on whether this is a candid or a posed portrait.  If the latter then you lose points.  I'll bet that this shot would probably be the shot her family would prefer.  Certainly an eye stopper in any case.  Best, LM.

I like the pose and sharpness of the subject.  Her colors work well with the bg. If the graininess is too much I would simply use the Ninja, or what ever noise reduction program, but slam the adjustments to the max.  That would make the bokeh even more buttery.
