Hiking back to camp from a morning of shooting the sunrise, I found

this nearly-complete whitebark pine snag, still hanging on to a large

granite boulder.

Thank you, Jim.  What are you thinking of as being "lost"?  (Serious question:  I think my ability with the scanner is the weakest link in my chain of skills).

Hi John,

Interesting and fun. To see and immortalize the small seemingly insignificant detail, is a great skill of the photographer. You did it with this one.  I also like the tonality as well as the background here.

All the best

I really love this.  I've taken several similar shots (not loaded yet), and I plan to put them in a category entitled 'Mother Nature's artistry'.   Indeed, nature can really be a show-off sometimes.  :-) The natural shapes, textures, colors, and detail are really outstanding.....plus I can find half a dozen shapes of things within this.  Do you see the platypus or the serpent or the beak of an ibis?  I also love the 3 limbs all leaving different portions of the frame.  Well done.....Chris Harris would be proud of you with this intimate landscape.
