trisha jean-angela 5 Posted October 12, 2010 Thank you so much for your kind words; I appreciate it very much. I am happy you like this photo of my Chewey looking out the window and took the time to let me know your thoughts. Always good to hear from you! :) Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted October 13, 2010 The texture of the cat poking through a screen gives a glimpse at the everyday life of a house cat, dreaming bigger. Link to comment
trisha jean-angela 5 Posted October 13, 2010 Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment; I appreciate it very much! It's funny, but I seem to get more comments when I don't put them up for critique...wonder why that is...oh well...thank you again for giving your attention to this photo. Always good to hear from you! :) Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted October 13, 2010 Trisha... It's just that everyone keeps checking back to see if you've posted any more "eye" portraits! ;-)As for this one, excellent abstract reality... Mike Link to comment
trisha jean-angela 5 Posted October 13, 2010 Oh...is that it? I was wondering, but then my "eye portrait" hasn't met with many comments either so what's the excuse there? Perhaps I should just give up...what do you think? Anyway, thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts, always good to hear from you and glad you like it! :) Link to comment

Not Here 93 Posted October 13, 2010 Trisha... Pffft (as the cat would say), Don't you ever give up. Your work has a wonderful uniqueness and quality that is a pleasure to view; not to mention the sense of humor ;-)... Mike Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted October 13, 2010 The screen adds just the element that lifts this from simply a contemporary picture of a cat at the window and drops it down in a timeless place. Link to comment
trisha jean-angela 5 Posted October 15, 2010 Patsy - Thank you so much for your visit and taking the time to leave your thoughts; it is kind of you and most appreciative! I am happy you like the processing on this one, I tried to make it look a little different. Always good to hear from you! :)Jack - Thank you for sharing your thoughts; the original one was very light and while nice in that form, I wanted to bring out the contrast and the screen for texture and give it an older look. I am happy you like it! Always good to hear from you! :)Alberto - Thank you for your kind words and letting me know what you liked about this one; it was the texture and aged feeling I was trying to bring out so I am happy you think it paid off. Always good to hear from you! :)Michael - Thank you so much for your encouragement; your words mean more than you can know! It was very kind of you to encourage me and offer support and I appreciate it very much! Always good to hear from you! :) Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted October 15, 2010 Trisha I like this very much. Great balance between the weight of the curtains on the left of the frame and the fall off to darkness of the right side. The tight crop really brings me into the cats world. The fact that the cat is looking so intently at something off camera and not involved or concerned with the photographer adds to that cat's eye view feeling. The overall tone is pleasing and that toning along with the texture of the screen binds the various elements into a harmonious unit. The effect the screen has on the cat fur and the curtain pattern are lovely , rendering them both distinct and the same, all at once. Although I like the general evenness of the light and tones I wonder if it would be worth exploring pushing the highlights up a tad and the shadows down to create a bit more dimensionality. trisha jean-angela 5 Posted October 15, 2010 Thank you so much for your kind words and sharing your thoughts. I like your suggestion and will play around with this idea; here I was trying to get the look of really old, dark, and not so perfect (like I have to try at imperfection! lol). This photo has lots of possibility for play, so play I shall! :) I appreciate your visit very much! Always good to hear from you! :) Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted October 15, 2010 Hi Trisha I do agree that this is the type of image which could stand up to myriad interpretations. I am not sure if I understand correctly but here goes anyway. If by old you mean that look that aged black and white images can take on after many decade then that look tends to be relatively high in contrast as the whites tend to bleach and wash out over time in prints. Lightroom has and aged photo, one step preset, which tones as well as blowing out the highlights. I find it much too heavy handed but it can work well if two copies of the image are exported to photoshop, one normal and one treated with the preset. Combining the two files and then adjusting the opacity of the ageing treated file gave this result. Link to comment
trisha jean-angela 5 Posted October 15, 2010 Thank you for taking the time to work on your version and for showing it to me. I really like it. I don't have Lightroom, just the very elementary version of photoshop and I still don't know how to do much on it, especially how to combine images or work in layers. I am hoping I can learn some new things soon. Thank you again for your feedback and visit; I appreciate it very much! :) Link to comment
thadley 15 Posted October 16, 2010 An image with texture and mood. My preference is to have something a bit brighter but this is what you as an artist and photographer wish to convey and I like it. Link to comment
trisha jean-angela 5 Posted October 16, 2010 Thank you very much for your visit and sharing your thoughts; yes brighter would be nice too and very possible with this one since the original is much lighter...I was just trying out something different. I am glad you like it though even if it may not be your preference. Always good to hear from you! :) Link to comment

pnital 36 Posted October 16, 2010 Being an animal lover, and having a loved cat for 13 years this one has attracted me very fast ;-)) Reading some of the comments I went back and forth between your version and Gordon's one. I think that both have merit and are conveying different feelings, and it was hard for me to decide witch I like best ...I see it as a kind of a point of view.Gordon's version has more details. But I do like a lot your softer version, and the B/W treatment of the cat and its surrounding ( from R to L with a kind of slightly diagonally placed cat), it feels very well that the cat is behind the net and therefor softer, but it has all the features. Beautiful timing and balanced composition. It brings memories of my lost cat. Thanks! Link to comment
trisha jean-angela 5 Posted October 16, 2010 Thank you so much for those kind words and sharing your sentiments of your beloved cat, companion and friend. It is so hard to lose someone with whom we have shared so many years and moments. I am happy this one touched you and brought such treasured memories to mind. I am very appreciative for your visit and happy you like both this photo and Gordon's version as well. Always good to hear from you! :) Link to comment
JimCowan 0 Posted October 17, 2010 The texture makes this very appealing, that longing look says so much (cats are always on the wrong side of the door, in this case the wrong side of the screen). This has a nice uncluttered composition and the colours are peaceful and well balanced.Jim Link to comment
trisha jean-angela 5 Posted October 17, 2010 Thank you so much for those kind words and thoughts; yes, I see a longing in his eyes too. This is my cat Chewey; he is highly intelligent and so thoughtful...almost spiritual and very gentle. He was watching me cut the roses outside my bedroom window and I just had to capture that look on his face! I am pleased you like this photo and the processing I gave it. Thank you for your visit; good to hear from you again! :) Link to comment
