LenMarriott

Canon A540, 1\500 @ f5.6, 23.2mm (140mm FF equiv), hand held, bounced Vivitar 283 flashes (2) with optical triggers using camera flash at half power. Camera was set on Auto White Balance. In retrospect and since further testing has been done, I think using Daylight balance would have provided a superior original. Best, LM.

Nice portrait of a young person. Sharp bright eyes with eye contact, Looks good on white BG. Regards, ifti.

There's a definite family resemblance, Len. Shot in your home studio? The white-on-white caught my eye as skewing the emphasis toward Evan's face and dark hair and accentuates his forward lean. Was this intentional?

One of the advantages of aging is that the older eyes start to lose the ability to discern fine details, such as noise.  Looks great to me!  :-)  You are correct though in suggesting that something could be done about it and maybe I should try.  Things will be clearer as to the reason for the noise in the first place when I answer Michael's post.  Best, LM.

Family resemblance?  You mean as in cheerful, good natured, intelligent, youthful, handsome?  :-)    Home studio?  You mean the white paper background & two bounced Vivitar 283 flashes?  Then, yes!  Actually we were just goofing around doing some test shots before our prime model of the day, my 17 month old granddaughter, his cousin, showed up.  This is a heavy crop from the original frame from an entry level, tiny sensor, 6 mp Canon A540.  I include the original frame for reference, reduced in size for the web but otherwise unaltered.  As you may have heard me say before, I prefer B&W treatment for portraits of people.  Best, LM.

At 55 I still have a little bit of vision left.  With a little bit of strain I detected minute noise in the shadow near his neck but at my age, this does not bother me.  LOL

Thanks for sharing the original, Len. Yes, cheerful, good natured, intelligent, youthful, handsome and more. :-)

Too bad Evan's hand wasn't included or it'd make a nice full frame shot too. The uncorrected color original looks pretty nice as is: natural and cheerful.

Yah, the shadow areas are the first to feel the touch of noise as they can be equated to an underexposed area.  Thanks for your observations and validation.  Best, LM.

The process is called 'Making lemonade out of a lemon'.  I actually have an 8"x10" print of this one.  It falls apart under really close scrutiny but at a normal viewing distance it's fine.  The worse your vision, the better it looks.  Thanks for popping in.  Best, LM.

Looks like a little family fun resulted in him being completely at ease.  It's just a natural, fun shot, which I'm sure he's pleased to have.  Nicely done!
