This kind of shot (including lots of mine) always makes me wonder if it is the architecture or the photography that might be more noteworthy? Either way, this is an excellent subject of art to photograph. If this 'thing' was in my neighbourhood or within easy traveling distance, I dread to think how many times I would visit it to really try and 'capture' the spirit of it, if I ever could.

I'm sure the designer never envisaged  this being photographed with a so-dash-ordinary lamp post in front and with an orange fire-hydrant sort of thing spoiling its aesthetics. Hey, that's an idea! Could you just make that architect so much happier by just 'dissapearing' that lamp-post and hydrant?

Yes, I wonder how this would look in just moonlight? Just another wild thought. best wishes ~ mike

I am confused by this...the structure is amazing but as Mike said...what's up with the lamp post and hydrant, not to mention the un-kept grounds around the building "pity" that so little attention has been paid to the upkeep. I do think the building is worthy of a second look and yes a night shoot would be perfect! Thank you for showing us this!

Best regards, Pamela

I love this forum!  If not for it, I would never know a building such as this exists.  Thanks for the great capture.   Anyone want to meet me and a torch to correct the lamp post oversight?    ;=)

I had to do it!   Adobe's CS5 content aware fill does a respectable job of taking out the post.  A brush stroke with the healing brush set to content aware removes the hydrant easily.   But, the hydrant with the wild yellow, I like.  The light post has to go.

I like your perspective of this very architecturally challenged unusual/interesting building. I agree with others in that the light pole causes a distraction and should have been eliminated in the initial shot or during post processing.

The Cleveland Clinic - Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health is new and the landscaping is currently being worked on, hence the unkept look. This is a very difficult building to capture without sun glare, given all the curves and multitude of  angles. It can be easily captured without the hydrant and light pole but timing and sun position/angle is critical. I have made a few attempts at capturing this building, but haven't come up yet with my final interpretation.

If your in or planning on visiting Las Vegas and interested in getting a few shots of this building it is located at 888 W. Bonneville Avenue. Like everything else in Las Vegas, your timing is a gamble.

niki, you have a wonderful portfolio, congratulations on your outstanding body of work.

thank all of you. i've more shot of this clinic, details without lamp and yellow hydrant and in the next day i'll post in my portfolio. yes, maybe without lamp and hydrant could be better. but it is precisely these two details that give a sense of reality or it may be seens a spaceship just landing

If I am here for half an hour ,I think I would made some 100 abstract shots from this fine building, and I am just suggesting that to you.

I really wish I am there.

a very fine and beautiful image.

to saad salem:

unfortunately this is las vegas, the desert. as you can see from the image was almost noon and there were 108 farenheit, about 43 degrees celsius.... no shadow, no umbrella, nothing with which to shelter from the sun. I resisted a little more than ten minutes... but i take a lot of pics and in the next day i'll show you. thank for comment

Great capture of a building from another planet! I also like the hydrand and lamp being in the shot, brings contrast and oppose the two worlds nicely.

Simple shot, interesting structure, that I never seen before. I like clean blue sky with shiny curved structural forms. Do you need change any thing on this particular shot? My answer is NOT. Just try it at different time of day. Any way nice work!

A metaphor for the whole of Las Vegas. I think the way you aligned the lamppost with the architectural features is perfect. Under no circumstances should you remove the fire hydrant.

What an amazing building, and very nicely presented..!

I agree with others who would like to see this without the lamppost. However, with that gone, I think the hydrant would just underline the ordinariness of the curb, which in it's turn really emphasise this unordinary piece of architecture, in addition to give a subtle splash of colour.
