Zeiss-Ikon startete (founded) in Dresden wie die (also) Praktica. Nach dem 2ten Weltkrieg (world war II) wanderte Zeiss-Ikon auf das Territorium der BRD. 1972 wurde die letzte (last) Zeiss-Ikon Spiegelereflexkamera: SL 706 gebaut. Der Wettbewerb (competition) der Japaner war zu stark (to strong). Die DDR (GDR) hatte durch die (closed country) Abschirmung vom Weltmarkt noch länger (had) die Chance. Beide (both) Objektive Sonnar von Carl Zeiss entwickelt - hier als Rollei-Version schon in Singapure gebaut und Meyer Oreston (Görlitz)  sind wunderbare Objektive: optisch und im Design.

Two sisters, I didn t know it.  I worked with this type of Praktika, It had a metal shooter.  I like Super TTL, the type before, more. But I can to say only, this optic was excellent. Many regards Ed

PS:

A nice nostalgia from the time, when the people  had a real passion for a  good photography and in the same day when they  have given the first  camera,  never produced art photography immediately, only 3 steps from the shop.

Hi Jorg. Thanks for your comments on one of my latest photos! The place depicted is not a jail but the remains of an old watch tower of some sort. Thanks for sharing this picture as I love old cameras. They have a special charm which is not found even in today's most sophistcated cameras. . . .  well perhaps Leica is the exception. Best wishes . . . .  John

Good idea to show them together while listening your storry..There is a kind of come-back of german cameras, I like that..particularly optics from BRD are again on the top..BR,vf
