His Kingdom

One of several images taken in Glacier National Park that try to depict what the average visitor might see. No crazy alpenglow or sunrise colors - just some nice afternoon lighting. I thought this type of directional lighting really made the foliage and greens glow. The mnt goat was just icing on the cake for this image. I double processed a single file to hold highlights in the sky.

the 2 times I visited this area, lots of goats each time - very typical I'm

told. I double processed a single file to hold highlights in the sky.

Harry, this is very much how I saw this location when I visited in the early 80s. We actually hiked down to the lake and fished for trout. The only difference is that it was in September and the snow had already blanketed the upper reaches. It was a memorable trip and one of my fondest recollections of Glacier. I never saw the first goat and we were in and around Glacier for nearly a month of our 2 1/2 month western US and Canada trip. Just as you are presenting this, I remember feeling like this was the most beautiful location of the Park. Sure, St. Mary Lake is probably the jewel of Glacier, but I had never seen this spot before the day we hiked to it. I wasn't prepared for it's intensity. Back then I was shooting 64 ASA Kodachrome and my images were crap because of the bright lighting. I didn't know what I was doing. Your image is excellent with all the highlights and shadows preserved. Having the goat makes it even better!!

This is spectacular.  When I saw the photo, I thought, "My God, this is beautiful".  And your title "His Kingdom" made me think you were referring to God's Creation until I saw the goat.
