These are 'the two lovers' found a while ago in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine

during one hot summer day. The young woman is Julia (Yulia)

previously featured in my portfolio to grreat acclaim. Your ratings and

critiques are invited and most welcome. If you rate harshly or very

critically, please submit a helpful and constructive comment; please

share your photographic knowledge to help improve my photography.

Thanks! Enjoy! John

Just gorgeous. Natural, whimsical, well exposed, and the B/W treatment adds to the mood. Congratulations.

I have sat on this for two/three years always 'intending to post it' but always finding excuses not too -- thinking it 'too personal' or 'not good enough', but just posted it and 'views' are climbing rapidly.

Your and Axel Cordes' critiques are justifying my final decision just to post it and let my intuition about 'what I like' and not try to second-guess Photo.net members' taste come into play.

I don't post for ratings, but I do like members to be interested or 'like' what I post -- that's the purpose of this exercise -- to post your 'best' work.

But what do you do when you 'like' a work, but you think others won't?

That was my dilemma, as I thought this just a little to 'small' for this service, but still liked it after the long passage of time.

I guess time has triumphed.

Thank you for the positive feedback -- it helps justify my decision to post.

Nicely composed. Were they conscious about you while you were clicking? Their expressions look genuine.

Their expressions, like 98% of all expressions shown in my photos posted here, are entirely natural.

Whether or not they were 'aware' at the moment I was 'clicking' I do not now recall, but I showed them this photo -- I felt it was very touching.

The man, who is very protective of his young Julia, either wanted to buy it from me (on the very cheap -- a dollar or so) to give to her or hustle me out of there, so he could have all the attention.

As if somehow I were a rival at much more than twice his age and then some.

She was 18 and her photo (high key) selling beer, is posted elsewhere to great acclaim.

I haven't seen either of them in years.

Thanks for the comment; you made a good point with your question.

A compliment from you is never taken lightly; you always deal from a 'straight deck' as we all know.

Best regards.

Do you mean the highlights on her cheeks, nose and lower chin as well as her upper chest?

Or do you mean (something you made me just notice) the reflection of his bulk in her sunglasses?

Either way, it's a win-win for your comment.

I had trepidations a long time (years actually) about whether or not this would do well in critique, yet it is holding up fine -- her single portrait in high key was a stunning success, and I didn't want to be seen as 'chasing' a single standout with something less than good just to try to repeat.

I think now this can stand on its own (or I wouldn't have posted it.

I thank you for helping me understand my own photo.
