The starkness of the B&W has great aesthetic appeal, especially with those sharply defined branches.  That little line of white in the background, especially on the left, really helps provide depth and context; the photo would be much less without it.  In a similar vein, I like the faint band of slightly lighter sky in the far background; it has the same benefits as the white line.  My only suggestion is to remove the two left-most sticks in the water (one down near the corner and very faint, the other much more prominent and at a 45-degree angle); they are just visual distractions from your main subject and are too far removed from it to be contributing.

I think a little too dark, otherwise intriging

this is a very interesting image. I am also very curious as to what editing treatment you've used and what technical camera settings you have used.
